First of all, the ages can't be 14.5 or something along those lines. Then figure out all the factors of 36, since the product of their ages equal 36.
age 1 age 2 age 3 sum
1 1 36 38
1 2 18 21
1 3 12 16
1 4 9 14
1 6 6 13
2 2 9 13
2 3 6 11
3 3 4 10

Now since Tim knows his own house number, and still was unable to figure out the ages, it must be 13 since there are two possible answers for that number. This narrows it down to 1,6,6 and 2,2,9. Since when Richie gives out the hint that the OLDEST one plays the piano, it can't be the first since in the first there are two oldest. So the answer is 2,2,9.
