Samaritan House - People Helping People

What is the Samaritan House ? PART TWO

Organizations:

  • DSS (Department of Social Services) SC Job Service, Mental Health Services, The Dawn Center, will provide drug and alcohol rehabilitation, the Family health Center (to provide medical services) and DHEC.

Significance of these activities:

  • The above activities are extremely significant to the total performance and activity of the Shelter. Presently there are no transitional homeless shelters in the Orangeburg and surrounding area. There is a great need for the establishment and maintenance of a legitimate productive shelter. The above listed general and daily activities will insure the success of the Shelter. The Samaritan House is crucial to enable the homeless t return to becoming productive active citizens of the community, which is a basic right.

Who may participate?
  • The homeless population. This includes anyone who is without a nighttime residence. We will not discriminate against race, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, economic status, familial status, handicap or medical condition.

How participants are selected:

  • Participants must be will and able to participate in set regiments listed in the house rules. See attached House Rules and acknowledgments.
  • Participants must show growth and movement toward self-sufficiency.
  • There will be at least a monthly assessment of the client's status and progress to assure compliance with program rules and requirements. This is to be completed by the church counselors.
  • Maximum length of stay is sour months. The church counselors can extend this provided there is supported evaluation and approval.
