Alseides

Name: Alseides/Alseades
Pilot: Dilandau, Dragonslayers, Zaibach Soldiers
Affiliation: Zaibach
First appearance: episode 2
Equipment: Chlima Claw liquid metal, Stealth Cloaks, Flame Throwers

Alseides are the mass produced Zaibach Guymelefs used in large battles, such as the attacks on Fanelia and Freid. The Dragonslayers pilot these, and later in the series we see many Zaibach Soldiers doing the same. Dilandau has a custom version of one that is a red color. The Alseides are used by Zaibach for the entire series, however after episode 14 Dilandau no longer uses his and upgrades to the Oreides model.

Description: Alseides are powerful humanoid Guymelefs, with large arms and shoulders. They are a light blue color, except for Dilandau who has a red one. Their energists are stored in their soldiers, usually 2 energists is enough to use one. They also have dark cloaks. When in flight mode, their legs snap together, and they can't use their cloaks, but otherwise they look the same.

Abilities: The Alseides main weapon is the Chlima Claw liquid metal that can be formed into a metal weapon, or used as fuel for the flame launchers located in their arms. The liquid metal is very flamable, and if the Guymelef is set aflame at any part of it, the liquid metal that is inside will easily burn the entire Guymelef to a crisp in a matter of seconds. They also have Stealth Cloaks which can make them invisible, however this cannot be used while in flight.

Note: In Greek mythology, Alseides (transliterated as Alseids in English) were nymphs who lived in the groves (alsos). The initial rough sketch for the then unnamed enemy mecha was drawn by Escaflowne co-creator Shouji Kawamori, and then was vastly revamped by mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane. In Katsu-Aki's shounen manga version, Kawamori's rough design is used as the basis for the early enemy mecha instead of the anime's final design.

(They are also called "invisible devils"/"mienai majin" by the people of Gaea in his manga instead of "invisible giants"/"mienai kyojin.") This mass-produced enemy mecha design was called Galdiola up until just before broadcast, when it was renamed Alseides. The anime's final design for the Alseides later appears (with some modifications) in Katsu-Aki's manga under the new name "Beterugiasu."
