A witch doctor flies out east
No voodoo; no pain
Just taking good magic
to our Lady ____,
Colleen credits her mask to the help of Ann Light:
"This mask was totally inspired by the designs
of Ann Light whom I
consider to be the "Queen of Gourd Masks." She very
graciously allowed me to
borrow one of her designs for my "Witch Doctor" which
is embellished with
feathers and twigs from the seed pods of the coconut palms on
Sanibel."
Her mask went to Jane Coddington:
Now I have two of the coolest gourd masks ever!:) Colleen
sent a great
mask she calls Witch Doctor. It is a reddish brown background
with geometric
patterns of gold, copper, black and silver painted on it. It has
a
great headdress of black feather and twiggy things, painted gold.
Colleen
tells me these twiggies are from Sanibel.
My first reaction was that it coordinated beautifully
with the mask Ann
Light had sent as part of the Christmas exchange. There is a good
reason for
that. Colleen in Iowa and Ann in NJ compared notes so the masks
would
"match." Very tricky, girls!
I absolutely love my new Witch Doctor. (that sounds
kind of strange,
but... oh well!)
Today I am going to hang them together in my living room. Thanks
again
Colleen for the great art work and your extra thoughtfulness and
attention in
conferring with Ann.
