Jane Coddington sent this clue:
It really won't be long
Just sing a little song
It's moving right along
Guess the clue -- now don't be wrong!
[Pause here to make rap sound effects (you know
the ones I mean)]
Where the mask will go
Only I (and Betty) know
I'll sing a little mo'
And you will know fo' sho'
[Insert more rapping background jive]
It's not under the snow on the lawn
Not with rabbit, mouse or fawn
In the mail it will be gone
To a gourdpatcher named _ _ _ _!
[Grand finale of rapping stuff]
Her mask went toDawn Christensen:
Dear Jane and patch - Thank You, thank you!! The
journey was safe! A spirit
of Bear mask from Jane (upstate New York) arrived
today. I have been sick
since last week and this was my first day back
teaching. It was a long day
and before I left for my evening job I waltzed
thru the livingroom to find a
very large upright box. I knew it was for me but
I called to my son to help
me open it (carefully). Inside was a wonderful
Bear mask painted, stained,
and burned with symbols of sun/ lightening and
water. Jane included a note
that explained the Bear spirit is known for
healing energy. Boy could I use
that. By coincidence I have a big black Lab
named Bear. It has broom corn
hair with cobalt blue glass pony beads that stick
straight out (that's the
part I like the most). She was also kind enough
to share and send a crystal
she dug herself from an area near her last
summer. The note says "dreams,
dreams, make dreams come true!" You did, Jane.
It will have a place in my
classroom tomorrow. Everyday I bring in
something new, change something or
remove something and the kids guess what it is as
an obsevational skill.
Tomorrow I will use the mask. Thank you so much,
Jane
I LOVE IT!!!!! ...Dawn

Jane's bio:
Jane Coddington: Woodswolf@aol.com
I started working with gourds two years ago. I like
to make bowls and
vessels using dyes, acrylic paint and woodburning tecniques. I
have sold
gourd art in a local gallery shop and privately.
I also attempt to grow gourds here in "balmy"
upstate new york. This was my
third gourd growing season and I had a very bountiful crop. It
now is drying
quickly, as a result of green peeling, and will be ready for crafting
in a
few weeks.
I enjoy gourd art and gardening in my free time. I have worked
with clay and
pottery in the past and my bowls are influenced by works of clay.
