V Gets A Life

Ch 8

After Jerry left with V, Jax sat back on the sofa. "What happened here?" Jax asked himself. "I meant to keep her from going with Jerry. That didn’t work." He said upset with himself.

Holding his head in his hands. Jax tried to figure out what had happened and why. "I almost kissed her?" He said in a questioning tone. "Am I attracted to her?" It bothered Jax that he wasn’t sure of the answer. It seemed like an absurd question. Why couldn’t he answer it?

After a while he shot his head back up. "She is out with my brother. Why would she go out with him? What if he hurts her? He is infamous for his treatment of women." He considered following them, however, after one look at his watch he changed his mind.

He shook his head and looked at his watch again. "An hour. I have been sitting here for an hour. Well, they should be back soon. I will wait." Jax said as he poured himself a drink and sat back down.

A few minutes later he realized that he couldn’t just sit there. He had to find out what was going on. "Who would know what Jerry is up to?" Thinking for a while only one name came to mind. "It is worth a shot." He picked up his cell phone and dialed the number.

V looked at her surroundings as she stood outside of the limousine. "A boat? You are taking me on a boat?" She asked in awe of the vessel that was docked before them.

"It would certainly appear that way wouldn’t it?" Jerry said with a grin.

"I don’t think I am dressed for boat travel." V said looking at her dress.

"We aren’t going to be swabbing the deck. This is a luxury yacht. It is not simply a boat." Jerry said still amused by her reaction.

"And what will we be doing on this yacht?" V asked suspiciously.

"Well, if you don’t hurry up and follow me, we will wont be doing anything on it. We need to board." Jerry said taking her hand.

Although she was upset he had not told her what they would be doing; V followed him. This was certainly the most exotic date she had ever been on. Caught up in the romance of the water in front of them she had to remind herself that it wasn’t really a date.

"Like it?" Jerry asked as he noticed the expression of wonder on her face. "Why don’t we stand on the deck and watch the ship sail?" Jerry asked as he brought her over to a place with a good view of the water and the land.

"This is amazing." V said as she watched the water ahead of her. The ship had not yet moved left the dock but the feel of the water still got to her. She was so taken by the water she didn’t notice the limousine driver bringing in bags behind them.

"You like the water?" Jerry asked enjoying her the look of comfortable awe on her face.

V started to give some flip response but thought the better of it. She knew this could be a mistake but she trusted him. "My father was…" she began.

"A police officer?" Jerry offered when she paused.

"When I was older." She admitted. "That is how I got interested in law enforcement. Not when I was little. He ran a fishing boat off the coast of Maine."

"You grew up on boats?" Jerry asked suddenly understanding her reaction.

"Yes, nothing as fancy as this. Nothing fancy at all. I just didn’t realize how much I missed being on the water until we got here." V admitted softly.

Jerry began to realize the full meaning of where they were. He asked her another question. "Why did he stop fishing?"

"Well he never quit completely. However, he could no longer make enough money fishing to support us. After a couple of bad years and new harsher restrictions on the areas that could be fished, he quit. The money was better, more constant. That kept him going. Still, water was in his blood. He never really felt at ease on land." V said with a sad laugh.

Jerry brought his hand up to caress her cheek. He understood she had allowed him to see a part of her past that she kept closed. That knowledge warmed him. "I think you will like tonight’s cause."

"Cause?" V asked confused.

"Follow me. You will see." Jerry said as he lead her from the deck into what looked like a large ballroom.

"See what?" She asked as she walked into the room. "What is all of this?"
