V Gets A Life

CH 2

Jax stood at the sound of the voice and almost fell back onto the couch with the site of his brother wearing only a tight pair of blue jeans. Could Jerry really be involved with V? Wasn’t he involved with Bobbie Spencer? "Does Bobbie know you are here? Does she know you are dressed like that? I knew you were too unstable to ever have a serious relationship."

Jerry laughed at his brother’s obvious discomfort. Maybe Jasper had developed a sense of taste. "Maybe I haven’t found the right woman to settle me down. Maybe I have." He said with a nod to V. He was attempting to read Jax’s reaction. The ice-cold stares Jerry was receiving amused him immensely. "Now Jasper, if you don’t mind. V needs to get ready for our evening out. Isn’t that right, Luv?"

V tried to recover from the shock and embarrassment she felt at the situation. She had almost forgotten that Jerry was in the bedroom. V appreciated that Jerry was trying to save her from a night with Simon; but why did he have to give Jax the wrong impression? How could she get out of this? She knew Jax must be thinking horrible things. Why did Jerry have to appear with out his shirt? Weren’t knights supposed to wear shining armor? V never recalled hearing about anybody who was saved by a knight with shining pectorals.

V felt the color rise in her cheek when she studied Jerry’s half-naked body. She always knew he was in shape but she was more than a little impressed by his muscle tone. She knew she had to get the conversation back on track but oddly she couldn’t seem to remember what she was supposed to say. She thought back over the conversation? What was the last thing that Jerry had said? "Our date?" She asked confused.

"Yes, Luv, our date. We have reservations, remember. You should hurry. You know you always add eighteen minutes of preparation time when you dress formally." Jerry said with a grin. Jerry loved when Jax told him stories about V as the over organized assistant. The stories where she was not both overly organized and pointedly disapproving of Jax’ relationship with Brenda were his favorites. He happily took part of his favorite story to make it seem like he was more familiar with her habits than he truly was.

Jax gave a stern look to Jerry. "Are you going to a formal dinner dressed like that? I don’t think they would let you into a fast food restaurant in that." Jax said as the anger rose in his voice.

"Why do my clothes bother you?" Jerry asked with a grin. "Jealous?"

V silently prayed that the answer would be yes. However, she knew that it wouldn’t be. Jax had never given any indication that he had feelings for her. Why would now be any different.

"Not as Jealous as Bobbie would be. Or have you forgotten Ms. Spencer and her child while you were stripping for my former assistant?" The anger in Jax voice surprised even him.

V was shocked. How could Jax think that? Sure it looked bad but she would never…. "Jax, Jerry isn’t." She started to explain but was quickly interrupted.

"Jerry isn’t going to stand around and listen to you making accusations about the propriety of his actions." Jerry said quickly trying to keep V from getting another word in.

"Jerry don’t." She was going to tell him not to put words in her mouth but again she was interrupted.

"I know, I know, don’t speak in the third person. It won’t happen again, Luv." Jerry said quickly. "I was just trying to tell Jax that it was time for him to go"

"And I was trying to tell Jax what is really going on?" V said flustered by Jerry’s actions.

"Jasper is smart he can figure it out on his own, far away from here." Jerry said as he opened the door for Jax. "It has been nice seeing you, brother."

Jax sensed that he wasn’t going to win. His best bet was to corner V alone. He knew when Jerry got like this he wouldn’t back down. Jax decided he had to trust V to be able to hold her own with Jerry. Jax got up and walked to the door. Standing in front of Jerry, Jax spoke sternly. "Don’t hurt her."

V wasn’t about to let him out the door thinking the worst about her. She walked to the door to explain everything, however she was cut off when Jerry pulled her in for a kiss. Although she was trained to fight off advances like that, she was so shocked by his actions she gave in and accepted the kiss.

Jax looked stricken. He slammed the door as he left. "What could she see in him?" He asked himself as he reached the stairwell. He knew he had to set her straight, but how? He smiled as he began to formulate his plan.

Back in the apartment V had recovered enough to push Jerry away. She was furious that he had kissed her, furious that he had allowed Jax to think the worst, and even more furious that she had enjoyed the kiss. "All right Jerry, start explaining yourself now. It better be good or I will have you arrested."

Jerry laughed. "Calm down, Luv. I will tell you everything." He said as he led her to the couch.

"I am waiting." She said impatiently.
