Gekka no Kenshi (The Last Blade)
Fans of Gekka no Kenshi and it's sequal (known in the US as Last
Blade, and Last Blade 2) declare this game to be THE example of what a
2-D fighter should be. Set in the Bakumatsu, the romantic
era of Japan, it's the story of the guardians on the Gate of Hell.
It's a weapon-based fighting game with gorgeously animated characters,
intriguing character designs and a great story. The gameplay is top-notch
and some of the best that SNK hass ever turned out. Some people view
this series as the heir apparent to the seemingly defunct Samurai Spirits/Shodown
series. But opinion is generally split over this game. It's
defenders are staunch (I'm one of them), but it's critics are outspoken.
Make of it what you will, but i was willing to pay $300 to have Last Blade
2 for my Neo*Geo cart system.
