Kids these ages do not understand anything that is in symbols! So use simple stories and concepts that can be presented in concrete terms! Always use words with these kids that mean exactly what they say! Don't expect them to understand, when you use a "I said this, but I mean this." Because they won't!
At these ages kids memories are undependable. So aviod asking "What a story/lesson, etc., was least week or last night,. Because chances are they won't remember! So don't think that you're teaching is not effective, or that you're a failure as a teacher if you get this response. Aviod allowing the Devil to get that foothold on you by not asking them!
Kids these ages usually have a hard time following directions. So, only give these kids one brief direction at a time! Then allow a kid to finish a tak that you give them before giving them another one.
Understand, that despite what appears to often be the other way around, kids these ages have a strong desire to learn... so make the most of that! They are always curious, and don't mind asking you question after everloving question! In fact, their favorite words seem to be questions like how, what, and why?
Kids these ages learn best by doing, not telling! So provide stuff that they can use their 5 senses on. (And that includes tasting!)
Use primarily lesson-related objects with these kids. Whenever possible, relate the Bible truths to a kids life. (Like when teaching faith, don't expect a kid to relate to an adult trusting God for the money to pay their bills! They can't relate to that! Instead, relate it to something like trusting God for a bicycle. That they can relate to!)
