Endy is one of our "Supreme Beings". What a way to describe her! Actually, Endaira is our Co-Head Builder and has built some very fun areas for the MUD, including Darken's Tower, Depths of Moria and, most recently, Lighthouse. The other thing about Endy is that she's completely insane; on several occasions, she's been caught talking to her cats, Rebo and Snootles, and finds it amusing to play with rabid monkeys. Don't ask. For now, Endy's a Draconian Necromancer.
Immortal Survey:
A) How long have you been on Argonne?
I started on Argonne sometime between September
and December of
2001, I forget exactly when. Geoff introduced me to
the mud but I didn't
get really excited about it right off. It was after a
few months that I
started messing around with OLC and editing an area
to learn how to
use it, I wasn't planning on writing areas for a mud,
but it was always
something I wanted to learn how to do.
B) What are your goals as an immortal for Argonne?
My aim is to make the entire mud a large
cohesive zone full of fun things
to do and explore. I want the players to be
entertained whether they are
killing everything in sight type or the explore the
nuances of everything
type. I want the room descriptions to be interesting
and mean
something even if noone reads them.
C) What changes would you make to Argonne if you could?
The changes I would make to Argonne really
revolve around the areas
that make up the entire world. If I had absolutely
tons of time on my
hands and lots of help, I would revamp the entire
place replacing all
stock areas and making the entire world a lot more
fantastical, I would
add a lot more depth to each area and give it all a
story that made
sense. I would interconnect more of the areas,
because that is how a
more realistic world would be, towns and forests
don't have single paths
connecting them, they connect in numerous places. I
am also always
interested in adding new features to entertain the
players, like new
classes and lycanthropy, things like that. I don't
know how to code but if
I did, I would fix up the totally patchwork OLC code
and add in specs for
objects and rooms.
D) Do you have any areas in the planning process? If so, can you tell
us about them?
I just finished my third area for Argonne, not
counting the Elvis area
which was just for fun and really isn't an 'area'. I
haven't started a new
area yet, but I am always working on revamping my old
areas, with OLC
your areas are never really 'done', you can always
improve upon them. I
am working on improving Depths of Moria because it
was the first area I
wrote and I am not totally happy with all of my room
descriptions.
Darken's Tower luckily has not needed a lot of
revamping which is good
because it was ripped from my still screaming soul in
a 6 month time
period, in other words it was a major major amount of
work to complete.
However, I am completely happy with the results and
the players seem
to enjoy most out of any of my areas. It was an idea
that I had for an
area years before I ever dreamed that I would
actually write it. As for
Lighthouse, it's really too soon to say how much work
I will spend
revamping it, it has some vnums left so I can always
add on fun new
rooms to keep the expert players guessing. I am also
somewhat
working on revamping regular Moria, which is a mess
and has the
stupidest room descriptions that ever existed, making
it the most
discouraging project that I've worked on, I wish I
had just ripped it out
and started over. I do have some ideas for new areas,
one I have
always wanted to write is Palmyra, which is an
ancient ruins lost in the
middle of a massive desert. However, the thought of
writing 200 room
descriptions about desert makes me want to scream. So
instead, I
might write some sort of botanical or hanging
gardens, as I find anything
to do with plants easy to write.
E) What is your favorite thing about Argonne?
My favorite thing about Argonne is the fact
that they let me come on
and have almost complete free rein to write my areas
and work on my
vision of what a mud should be. I have no idea why
they all decided to
trust me and let me do this, but I'm not asking
questions. Mostly, I just
want to enjoy the freedom to write what I want to
express in the mud
area 'genre'. I also really enjoy chatting with the
other imms and of
course doing anything wild and crazy that pops into
my mind at any
moment.
