Deterioration of The Ways:
These were made by male Aes Sedai as a gift of thanks to the Ogier for allowing them the sanctuary of their stedding to be free of the One Power and - hopefully - the madness. They were a pathway from one stedding to another as grown from the power.
The ways were expanded by the Ogier after the male Aes Sedai left via the Talisman of Growing.
The Waygates are the way which someone enters the Ways, and resemble a wall of living vines from which a key in the form of an Avendesora leaf is moved to open the gate.
For almost 2,000 years the Ways provided safe transit for both human and Ogier alike.
Then, during the War of the Hundred Years, the Ways began to grow dank and dim - so slowly fe noticed it - then people who went in started to vanish, or come out driven mad raving about 'Machin Shin', or of a presence that watched from the shadows......
