TEC
uses a variety of methods to reward players for good role-playing and to
encourage them to spend time in the game. The most common are Role-Points.
*
Role-points are accumulated a rate of one (1) point per hour you spend
in the game, signed on as a character (i.e. not in the welcome area). The
game is set up to exclude time spent idle (not doing anything) and any
scripting it detects.
*
During nightly scheduled events the rate for all players logged in to the
game is often changed, raised to anywhere from 1 1/2 points per hour to
3 points per hour. (During the last superbowl, Scott set it to 4 per hour!)
In such cases you need not necessarily participate in the event, it is
enough simply to be online and in the game during it.
*
If you participate in the event and manage to impress a gamemaster with
your IC role-playing, or by contributing to the event in an overall positive
manner, they may award you a role-point in addition to those you accumulate.
At
the staff's discretion role-points can also be awarded for a variety of
other contributions to the game such as story or poem submissions to the
TEC website, organizing or participating in in-game organizations, constructive
input in the forums, etc.
If
you a gamemaster feel that you have contributed to the atmosphere of the
game with your IC role-playing, they have the option of awarding you a
bonus point. For every ten (10) bonus points your character accumulates
your rate for role-point accumulation increases by 1/4 point per hour.
There is, however, a maximum accumulation rate of 4 points per hour.)
Normally
the guidelines for awarding bonus points are as follows:
*
One (1) bonus point for the good role-playing (staying in-character, participating
well in the event and contributing to the enjoyment of the event for others).
*
Two (2) bonus points for truly exceptional role-playing (significantly
contributing to the event, innovative and enjoyable role-play or anything
else that the GM decides is otherwise exceptional and contributes to the
enjoyment of the game and the event.)
*
GM's have the option of deducting bonus points you may have previously
earned for such things as OOC comments or statements, blatant OOC behavior,
disruptive behavior or anything that might detract seriously from the enjoyment
of the game for others.
Bonus
points can be awarded anytime, not just during events. DO NOT ask for them,
GM's will give them when they believe they have been earned.
Whenever
you receive a bonus point you will automatically receive an event point
along with it. Each event point allows you to raise any one of your character's
skill levels by one-tenth (1/10th). That's the theory anyway, haven't yet
figured out if this has been implemented. If anyone know, lemme know.
Although
it may seem like a skill set like swords or locksmithing, general skills
is actually a measure of your character's general knowledge, tips and tidbits
picked up as they have gone along through life in Iridine. These points
are used to increase your current skill Ranks or to purchase brand new
skill sets.
Consider
that, having accumulated enough GSP's, you could purchase a new skill set
like Healing, for example. A warrior with Healing skills is likely to be
quite an asset to any hunting party.
General
Skill Points are earned in two ways:
*
As an award for good role-playing and by attending events.
*
You can "buy" one (1) GSP for fifty (25) role-points.

I have
been asked in the past how one goes about purchasing these things when
you have the appropriate number of role-points. Well, unless I am mistaken,
the only way to do it (there isn't any menu as yet that you can go to)
is to get the attention of a GM. What is the appropriate means of doing
this, I am uncertain. But I would imagine that using the @proclaim command
to speak to a GM who is online might be a good way. Otherwise, try to e-mail
Scott at support@worlds-apart.com or post your request in the forums. If
none of these happens to be the appropriate method of contacting a GM concerning
role-point expenditures and you get your butt chewed out by the GM, please
let me know so I can save future generations from such an egregious error.
