The Gathering's Teaching Charter
Section One: Teaching Within the House
GoE follows the teaching oath--each teacher chooses his or her students, just as each student chooses his or her teacher. We do not tell our teachers who they can teach except in very rare instances when it is deemed appropriate by the teaching council to evoke teaching sanctions.
The following exceptions must be noted:
In the case of tasking for spheres, tasking must be done inhouse. You cannot seek a teacher out of house for spheres without approval of at least two master teachers.
In the case of tasking for arts or plateaus, a student is encouraged to use a house teacher, but is not required to do so. A student seeking a teacher out of house for arts or plats is not required to go through the teaching council for approval.
In the case of apprenticing, if an apprentice wishes to choose a mentor out of the house, he/she must receive approval from all house master teachers before beginning apprenticeship, and the mentor must keep the Teaching Council advised of the apprentice's progress with monthly progress reports. Upon completion of apprenticeship, the apprentice must go through the house for ordainment.
Section Two: The Teaching Council
The Teaching Council is comprised of all the teachers in the house, using the teaching pyramid. One master teacher is the ceremonial head of the council and the council’s voice when need be. The teaching pyramid is as follows:
Master Teachers
The duties of the Master Teachers include the following: setting the teaching standards of the house, participating in the illuminated master teachers guild as duty requires, teaching the teachers of the house, tasking the teachers of the house for train plateaus, interviewing apprentices prior to and at the completion of training, mentoring apprentices within the house and aiding in the training of all house apprentices, regardless of mentor.
Acolyte
The duties of the acolyte include the following: helping to set the teaching standards of the house, participating in the illuminated master teachers guild as duty requires, teaching the teachers of the house, assisting the master teachers of the house, interviewing apprentices prior to and at the completion of training, mentoring apprentices within the house and aiding in the training of all house apprentices, regardless of mentor.
Mentors
The duties of the mentors include the following: under the guidance of the master teachers and the teaching council, working with house apprentices as required. Mentors are chosen by the master teachers and follow their guidelines.
The Teachers
The duties of the House Teachers include the following: helping to set the teaching standards of the house, teaching the non-teachers of the house, if approved they mentor apprentices within the house.
Section Three: Teaching Outside the House
Section 3: Teaching outside the House
As previously stated, the house teachers are allowed to choose their students. Special attention should be paid to any teaching alliances our house may have with other houses, that their needs may be met. Also note that, with the exception of our teaching alliances, we do not sphere members of other houses. In the cases of our allies, we will sphere with the approval of their master teachers.
If it is deemed necessary to impose a teaching ban, whether for house defense or other reasons, valid reasons must be presented to the masters. If possible, the proposed ban should be presented to the masters prior to implementation, and those who are affected by the ban must be informed in a timely manner as to the reasons and length of the ban.
Section Four: Dreamsmiths of Enchantment
The Dreamsmiths of Entrancement is currently undergoing change. It is noted, however, that the training of forge and those with the mark do not fall under house guidelines. Thus, any members with the mark teach regardless of house affiliations, and there are no restrictions on house members as to who they seek for forge training.
Section Five: Apprenticeship
The Gathering of the Entranced seeks to provide an example of quality teaching throughout the dream. Therefore, the training of new teachers is a priority with this house.
Requirements to become an Apprenticeship:
Possible apprentice must seek a teacher to apprentice under.
Must seek an interview with the Master Teachers. During this interview it will be decided if the path of Teachering is right for you.
A potential apprentice who fails the first interview can reinterview in a month if so desired.
If the apprentice chooses a mentor outside the house, the mentor must be approved by ALL house master teachers and must report student progress monthly. At completion of apprenticeship apprentice falls under house guidelines for ordainment.
It is preferable, although not mandatory, that the proposed apprentice be at least of the third sphere, to ensure they have gained some knowledge of the dream and experience in the teaching environment. We do recognize however, that there are exceptions to this, as some have a natural ability which should be encouraged and nourished.
Apprentice should ideally be under training for no less than a six (6) week period.
During the apprenticeship they should attempt to spend time training under as many of the house master and assistant master teachers as possible, to study different teaching styles.
Prior to the final ordainment interview, the apprentice must submit to the Master Teachers a sample tasks for every art of their focus that they learned after they entered the Dream and at least five (5) Dreamsoul arts.
Submit your Cloudsbreak bio/history to the Master Teachers.
Submit a theory on your focus in the dream to the Master Teachers.
Submit an essay on why you have chosen the path of the teacher and what this means to you along with an essay on what it means to you to be your focus to the Master Teachers.
Submit a dream history/bio to the Master Teachers.
Final Requirements:
The Master Teachers must do an interview with the apprentice seeing that all areas have been covered.
You shall be bound to this charter. Consider it an oath that you must take and obey to become a Teacher of the Entranced. Failure to abide by this charter will subject you to disciplinary actions.
Section Six: Mentoring
The training of new teachers is serious, and an undertaking not to be considered lightly. Therefore, a teacher in the house wishing to become a mentor must meet the following requirements:
The proposed mentor must have been teaching at least four months.
The proposed mentor must have a train of at least 20.
The proposed mentor must receive approval from the house master teachers prior to mentoring for the first time.
If the proposed mentor is not a master teacher or an acolyte, the master teachers have the right to request an interview with the proposed mentor.
If the proposed mentor is opposed by even one master of the Entranced, the candidate must find a different mentor.
The proposed mentor should attempt to cover all details in the Teachers Guide and Teaching Curriculum, which will be made available.
Section Seven: Ordainment(s)
Ordainments shall not be granted without a codex from The MasterTeachers stating that the apprentice has passed the final interview before ordainment and has successfully completed the Apprenticeship policy within the house.
Illuminated master teacher guild guidelines for ordainment will also be met, with the Masters providing assistance as needed. The house masters will present the prospective teacher to the illuminated guild for interview and ordainment.
Section Eight: Train Plateaus
Teachers seeking train plateaus must receive the support of at least two house master teachers.
Section Nine: Circle of Spheres
Members of the house are required to go through the house for sphere tasking. For spheres levels four and above, a Master teachers interview is required prior to tasking.
The following minimum requirements are expected:
Candidate is expected to have learned all arts, with the exception of soul evoke, that they can learn. If the student chooses not to learn an art, their reasons will be taken under consideration.
Candidate is expected to have art levels balanced as much as possible.
Candidate will be given a task by one of the house spherers which as closely as possible addresses the candidate’s specific needs.
Sphere tasking is preferably done by house spherers. Anyone wishing a task outside the house must receive the approval of at least two house master teachers and meet any other house requirements for the sphere for which they are seeking.
Students seeking the art of sphere MUST be approved by the masters AND rulers of the house-no exceptions.
Section Ten: Ammendments to the Charter
The dream is constantly changing and evolving, and as it changes, there will often be need to amend this charter, to keep it current. Proposed amendments will be presented by the masters of the Entranced to the house as a whole for approval prior to implementation.
