DayArriving back to what he called home, Petty hurried to pick up his only book he had and flicking through the pages arrived to the area entitled 'Assassination' Petty then read the words he once wrote long ago… "Assassination or rather instantaneous death. The art of killing a opponent with a single strike. This skill is the art form for the Assassin... Famous assassins include..." Frowning a little, Petty cursed his suspending his training. "Famous assassins… Only ever heard of one" Petty thought aloud. Petty pondered on the problem a little more and came to the conclusion that he didn’t even know how to become an Assassin. "Can’t hurt to check the guild out" thought Petty as he peered over to where he kept his few weapons he had. "Yeah, I’ll need to be able to actually swing one I guess to hit something" Chuckled Petty before picking up his book and flicking to the little notes he had about Swordplay. Glancing over the notes he had on swordplay, Petty noticed diagrams of figures demonstrating swordplay thrusts and parries, nothing-fancy just plain simple stuff. "It’s a start" thought Petty heading out of his room, Sword in hand and book in the other. Finding a quiet spot in the ruined fort, Petty began to practice simple thrusts and parries with his sword on a dummy, the dummy in this case a block of wood nailed onto a different piece of wood to vaguely resemble a humanoid of some kind. Hours past as Petty re-learnt how to hold a blade and use one, not to any great effectiveness but good enough to probably dispatch a Kobold, if he attacked from the shadows. Sweating and tired from his practice, Petty sinked into the shadows and left the Fort to the treasure hunters and beast slayers, He didn’t wish for either. Tired, but contented by the day’s progress, Petty went to bed, and dreams soon filled his head. Yawning as he awakes Petty dragged himself out of bed and rubbed his aching arm, the practice of swordplay took its toll on an out of shape Petty. A narrow shaft of light made it’s way through a little area of a nearby window which wasn’t covered in dirt and grime, Petty had always wondered how that little spot had remained clean enough for light to pass through, but it did look rather nice first thing in the morning and when the moon light shone through. “What today?” Asked Petty to the air as he stretched away the nights sleep, it was new for Petty to get up in the morning as he wiped some dirt from the window he peered over the city as the sun started its ascent in the sky. “Long time no see” Though Petty to himself as he remembered watching the sunrise as a child, but years of lurking in shadows had caused him to be asleep during the day, but the sunset he has seen many of. A soft growl heralded the awaking of Shadow Vein. “Good morning, Friend” Petty said to his Wolf with a friendly grin as Shadow Vein made himself over to his master. Stroking his Wolf behind the ears Petty turned back to the picture out his window, which was the city. Market traders had already got up and started to sort out their wares on the stalls, the Night watchman stood around looking impatient, waiting for the Town Guards to relive them of duties. All in all it was quiet, just a slight hum of noise made it’s way around town, clattering of hooves, curses of market traders as they dropped goods or tussled for space and as always the muttering of guards as they made their ways to relive the Night watchman. Petty cringed as he heard the sound of his stomach growling and a hunger pang hit him. Petty’s style of life, though suited Petty, and he was happy with it, didn’t cater well for gold, which in turn brought food and drink. Petty tried not to steal, Though it was difficult not to, He had no job so no way of income other than what he found or was given, though begging is a thing he never did, so the given part was rather low. “Breakfast time I guess, Shadow Vein” Said Petty to his Wolf. Slipping to the streets below, Petty quickly made his way through side streets till he found himself at a butchers shop, peering at the meats in the window, Petty sighed, he had never been good at stealing and on top of that, he had never enjoyed it. He had never wanted to be a thief and though an Assassin was a job, he wasn’t anywhere near to becoming one, so he had to find someway to live as he trained. “'Psst!.... over here” Said a voice from within the shadows. Shuffling about uneasy, a drop of perspiration dripped from Petty’s forehead and fear wrenched his body, all he wanted to do was hide in the shadows, but he was already hidden, yet still seen…what made him more nervous was the fact he couldn’t see who was speaking to him, at least you could run from a seen person. “Don't be scared, I have.. Something for you'” Blinking Petty nervously moved towards the direction of the voice. As he did a rather dodge looking character stepped out of the shadows and gave a smile, the sort of smile which was aimed at being friendly but this person had failed miserably at that, to Petty it was more a shark-like grin. “I see your eyeing this here butchers, good source of meat the butchers... a fine choice” rambled the man. “..well the point is, I've seen you here before, You really do look out of place when you steal, I mean no offence but you seem nervous and frightened. Well you see, the Butchers is, lets say, a ‘friend’ of mine, He helps me with cash flow and I see he isn't troubled" Said the man with a wink 'I also see that ring you wear' The man pointing to the ring on Petty’s finger as he flashed a identical ring on his own hand “'You're a member of the same guild as I, the greatest Guild! And I don't help everyone out but you seem a little thin and I can't help but feel for you so I wish to help you out' After all I think you have a good future ahead of you” Grinned the man handing Petty two bags. Unsure Petty took the two bags and blinked With a wink the man stepped back to his spot in the shadows Petty heard a distant voice 'Seek me out within the guild and we will begin your training, I am not hard to find, except when I choose to be. Confused and rather shocked at what had happened, Petty made his way back home and wondered about the two bags he had been given, after a while curiosity over came Petty as he opened the bags. |
