Contract Execution

It gives me much pleasure to announce that Karli has won Second Place in the Assassination Contest! Below please find her entry - Enjoy, she did a fabulous job indeed! :)

The weather had not relented for hours. Karli's wolf quietly guided through the maze of the trees that constructed Darkwell Woods and further on towards Bar-Kul as the rain continued to fall. Pulling the cowl of her cloak further over her head, she pressed herself flat against her mount as they ducked beneath a cluster of low tree crawlers that marked the end of Darkwell and the border of Kul. The smell of wet wolf assaulted her senses, but she gave it no heed. When one has a habit of roaming about the sewers and studying dead creatures, few smells tend to be worth much note.

It had taken a month or so since the notice had originally be posted at the guild, but finally after many inquiries with her eyes and ears and a small bank load of money later, she had managed to collect all she felt required in fulfilling the contract. The one named Felix, so hated for what reason she knew not, had only meager prayers for the coming event he'd not see coming.

Hope he has his own personal oracle, Karli thought to herself as she directed Blood Freedom towards a back trail mesh of fallen trees and over grown thickets. Sliding off her mount, Karli touched down on the ground noiselessly before pulling her cloak over her shoulder and beating her wings just enough to ensure they were dry and flexable. Shoving herself off the ground, Karli began to ascend the distance towards the top of the ancient tree.

Three quarters of the way up, Karli reached towards the tree, securing a hand hold before drawing herself onto a branch closest to her destination. Once situated, she folded her wings and covered them once more with her cloak, situating herself to resemble a large spider's web. The one she waited upon would know her location regardless.

It took little time. With a trained ear that twitched at the familiar noise, Karli slowly opened her eyes as the fog began to roll across the rain soaked ground. Still as a statue, she waited still as the faint noise drew nearer. Stifling a yawn, she nodded as an almost invisiable form slid through the fog then burst into the clear air above and into sight towards her.

It was they, her most valued and dangerous informant of all. Even she had no clear idea who they actually were... One day she would and that was a day she feared. If not for them, she never would have been able to escape the hellish plane that Valtera's wicked weapon has sent her to. She was indebt to this creatures and in debt is not something she much liked to be.

Landing on a branch close to her head, the creature turned it's bright red eyes in her direction, cocking it's head to the side not so much in question but in contempt. In a language that had no known words, the raven spread it's snow white wings wide, far wider then any normal sized raven could obtain and folded them at it's sides piously.

"I have found another," Karli told the raven quietly. "I know you didn't care for the last, but this one seems to be far stronger and more noble in their meddling ways. I'm hoping you will give me longer next time should this one be found suitable."

As though highly amused, the raven spread it's wings and bobbed it's head up and down in a silent chortle. Stamping one of it's claws against the branch in jest, the fit of mirth continued for several minutes, until Karli rolled her eyes.

"Can we please?" she asked with a hint of annoyance.

Chattering his beak at her menacingly, the raven hopped closer towards her along the branch, his head held low in a predatory fashion.

"You know I hate this, let's just get this over with..." she breathed, glancing down into the fog, the set of ageless tusks barely rising above the soupy mix. "His name is Felix," she informed the raven, bringing her gaze back up to meet his feral red eyes. "He has been haunting the town for the last few weeks and according to my contacts will still be here awhile longer." Settling itself with a nod, the raven hunched itself into a white ball, staring at the sprite.

"He seldom leaves Moorgate of late, but I'll remedy that situation so that he wanders into your domain. I feel here is probably the closest and most fitting area that isn't protected. I plan on sending him here in two days time. By offering him to you, I expect to be left alone for at least one years time."

Watching for the ravens agreement, Karli knew the deal wasn't going over too well when the feathers along its back and neck suddenly puffed and its eyes narrowed.

"This isn't no petty thug or traveler," she informed them. "I want a year of peace for this deal. You have a sprite's lifetime of souls outta our deal. Take it or leave it, else I'll see to it that he stays within the sanctuary of those areas guarded by the gods of light and goodness."

Clucking it's tongue at her in aggrivation, the raven closed its eyes before leaping from its branch into the embrace of the awaiting fog. Taking the ravens departure as its agreement, Karli waited quietly for the fog to receed with the creature before drawing her cloak over her shoulder one more time and leaping from the tree.

Touching down on the moist ground, Karli made for her mount. In two days time, her dark angel would have what they wanted.
