The party awoke to find that one of their member, Falin M'or had Vanished without really a trace. The party investigated the inn, the stables and around town. They discovered that Falin had spent the night drinking and gambling. Some of his possessions were found in the stables amid signs of a struggle. The party hired a tracker, Johan, to help track his scent. The party packed up and went off in search of Falin.
His scent led the party to an abandoned camp of the bandits. Bandages, feed, and refuse lay strewn about. The scent finally brought the party to the portal, where it disappeared. Falin must have been taken through the portal to the citadel beyond. Who knows how long he will live or where he'll end up? We must go get him back - and now!!!
The party decides to prepare as best they can and attack the keep as soon as possible. Suddenly a commotion begins at the portal, diving for cover the party just manages to hide as a group of Zhentium forces rush through the portal. They split up, seven go to hunt down the heroes of Ashenbedford (that's us) and one stays back as rear guard to watch the portal. With their numbers depleted, the Zhent forces must take all precautions necessary.
With only one guard present, the party acts. With Liarrin acting as if she is a prisoner, Samo approaches and identifies himself as one of the raiders. Coming back with a prisoner! (A transfer from cell block 1138!) The rouse works as Liarrin whips out her hands and casts a hold person spell on the remaining guard. With him basically dealt with, the way is clear to the citadel. The party gets ready for the assault.
The
portal sends the party to a far away keep on the top of a high plateau.
There are many guards present and they immediately question the party's
intentions. They recognize the armor of the slain guard as well as
the horses from deceased raiders. Incredibly the rouse works again
and the guards allow the party into the citadel. Once inside, the
guards catch on and the war is on!
Hobgoblin guards and human guards come out of numerous doors and hallways. Rentric takes off down the hallway and attacks guards from atop his mount. Blood flies as bodies are ripped apart by his morning star. Magic missiles fly and flaming bowling balls bounce around the hallway - taking out guards in great numbers. Liarrin attacks anything in her path, cutting down the sergeant as she goes by.
Suddenly more guards rush in and the party is surprised by Falin M'or. Alive and well, Falin has managed to escape but he is weapon less except for his bow and a few arrows. Arrows fly everywhere, and I do mean everywhere because Falin keeps rolling 3s! With only a few guards remaining and Falin and Liarrin down for the count Samo is forced to once again poke 'em in da bum! Wielding his long sword like a seasoned warrior, Samo knocks the last of the guards down as he and Rentric grab the rest of the party and scurry through the door.
