Raine

Raine is often considered to be Squall's mother in fic writing circles, there is a great deal of evidence to support this, particularly when she appears to Squall as a ghost in her home town of Winhill. It is said within the game that ghosts will only appear to members of their own family, nobody else in the group Squall was with saw the ghost of Raine.

Not much is known about Raine except the fact that she is now dead and once took care of both Ellone and Laguna. Laguna went back in time during the time compression to take the opportunity to propose to her before she died.
