Official Bio
Coming off their nearly seven million worldwide-seller BREAK THE CYCLE--a
critically acclaimed album that achieved quadruple platinum status in America--STAIND
will release their much-anticipated new album 14 SHADES OF GREY May 20 on
Flip/Elektra. Look for the first run of the CD to include a limited edition
bonus DVD disc featuring footage of the band from the early years to the
present, along with album lyrics and new band photos.
While the album's first single is titled "Price To Play," an emotionally
gripping song that goes to radio April 4, fans will not have to "pay the price"
for STAIND's free shows in four cities across the country, launching May 15 in
Boston. The set list will be a mix of STAIND favorites along with material from
14 SHADES OF GREY, produced by Josh Abraham and mixed by Andy Wallace, both of
whom did the same honors for BREAK THE CYCLE. In anticipation of the album's
release, fans can get an early listen of "Price To Play" by logging onto the
band's website (www.staind.com) to hear a snippet of the song. Last week, STAIND
teamed with the Brothers Strause on the East Coast for the filming of the "Price
To Play" video.
STAIND's free shows will take place in Boston (Avalon Theatre), New York
(Hammerstein Ballroom), Los Angeles (Wiltern Theatre) and Chicago (House of
Blues). In addition to these special shows, STAIND will be making a same-day
in-store appearance in each city where they perform. A number of tickets for the
evening shows will be given away to fans who pre-purchase the CD at the
in-stores. Additional tickets will be available through giveaways via the band's
website, local radio stations and retail outlets.
With chart-topping international success, multi-platinum album sales and
critical accolades, STAIND--singer AARON LEWIS, guitarist MIKE MUSHOK, bassist
JOHNNY APRIL and drummer JON WYSOCKI--are leaving an indelible mark on the
contemporary music scene. The band's multi-platinum third album BREAK THE CYCLE
(Flip/Elektra) became a certified global smash, fueled by the moody,
introspective singles "It's Been Awhile," "Fade," "For You" and "Epiphany."
Writing in the Los Angeles Times (6/30/01), Robert Hilburn praised the band's
"dark, pulverizing music," further noting "Staind's Aaron Lewis writes with a
human, convincing edge." STAIND's introspective intensity was also displayed on
their 2002 gold-certified DVD MTV Unplugged.
Personal Bio
My first experience of Staind occured when Outside took off the world
over. At that stage the only thing I ever listened to was hardcore death metal.
Outside struck a chord (no pun intended) with me that no amount of
death metal screaming ever had. This was due to the pure emotion that Aaron
Lewis shows in his vocals, you know that he means everything he says, it's not
just some fabricated crap he made up to sell records. Upon seeing the video for
Fade on MTV, my mind was made up, I needed to buy Break the Cycle.
From the moment the intro for Open Your Eyes played through my speakers,
I knew I had finally found that one special band
who's music you can just escape into. Staind have remained my favorite band from
that
moment, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Their MTV2 Unplugged dvd
even further set in stone this notion, the whole new dimension that the
accoustic format gave to their music was breathtaking. I cannot recommend this
band enough, to anyone who feels depressed, alienated or down, buy a Staind
album and listen, I mean really listen, to it. The instant salvation is
undeniable. Without question Staind are set to go down in history as one of the
greatest bands of all time. There upcoming album 14 Shades of Grey looks
set to confirm it.
