On this occasion we wish to express our gratitude
to your worthy Superintendent of Schools, Mr. J. W.
Studebaker. His wonderful resourcefulness and invaluable
suggestions as well as his untiring efforts and
cooperation are major factors in making possible the
structure which we today dedicate. The two years of more
we have shared with Mr. Studebaker in bringing into
reality this building will ever be to us a most pleasant
and cherished memory. A prominent attorney recently said
of him at a dinner party at Los Angeles, California,
"Studebaker is the greatest piece of human dynamo we
have ever seen." No one can better realize the truth
of this statement that Mrs. Smouse and myself. No
wonder he has built for Des Moines one of the most
efficient and economical public school systems in America.
We wish to remember the efficient architects.
Particularly do we express appreciation of the designer,
Mr. Clark Souers. He has devoted much time and study to
this structure. We join with our fair city in thanking
him for his plans and labors.
