The fountain which so gracefully adorns the
patio is a memorial presented by Col. & Mrs. E. S.
Olmsted in memory of their son, Jerald. The perpetuation
of his memory in this manner and in this setting we consider
most fitting and appropriate.
To the City Board of Education, and especially
to Mr. Craig T. Wright, who has cooperated so ably with
Mr. Studebaker and assisted in bringing this building
into a practical and beautiful reality, we extend our
sincerest thanks.
The part the donors have taken in this enterprise
seems insignificant compared with the task of working out
the manifold problems which we see here accomplished.
The building which we are dedicating today has
been especially designed and constructed for the purpose
of giving a greater opportunity to the handicapped
children. This group includes cripples, cardiacs,
anemics, partial sighted and deaf. It does not include
the totally blind since there are so few of these that
they must be cared for at the state institution.
