Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook Express
If you want to both read and write Chinese, Japanese or Korean then you
should install Microsoft Global IME
with Language Packs. If you only want to read CJK then you
can install the Language Packs
without the input method editors.
Web pages with appropriate META
tags will be automatically displayed in the right language,
otherwise you will have to manually select the encoding in the View menu.
Mail
Switch to Chinese, Japanese or Korean encoding and click the keyboard
layout indicator to select an input method editor. You can also write CJK
messages in UTF-8 or UTF-7 encoding.
Netscape Communicator &
Netscape 6
If you have Netscape Communicator 4.72 or later then your best choice
is to install Microsoft Global IME
with Language Packs, which will enable you to both read and write
Chinese, Japanese or Korean. Users of earlier versions should
install the Language Packs
without the input method editors and input CJK with a
CJK enabler.
After you have installed the Language Packs with or without the input method editors, you will have to configure
Netscape. Click Edit | Preferences | Appearance | Fonts, select
Chinese, Japanese or Korean for the encoding and select an appropriate
font. CJK fonts are neutral with respect to font width: you can
use the same font as both proportional and fixed-width.
If you want to view multilingual texts written in
UTF-8 then you should
install a multilingual font such as Arial Unicode MS, Bitstream
Cyberbit or Bitstream CyberCJK.
Web pages with appropriate META
tags will be automatically displayed in the right language,
otherwise you will have to manually select the character coding in the View menu.
