STRANDED IN THE JUNGLE  -  THE CADETS   -   MODERN  45x994   -   1956

This is the most popular version of the song although at the time other groups also recorded it.  The record's popularity became the inspiration for copy cat songs like the one following.

 (GREAT JUMPER)

WATUSI   -   THE PHARAOHS   -   CLASS  202   -   1956

Released just after the record above, it featured the same arrangement to build on the popularity of "Stranded".

(GREAT JUMPER)

GOOD GOLLY, MISS MOLLY   -   LITTLE RICHARD   -   SPECIALTY 624   -  1958

This is the classic version of the song that everybody knows.  However, it is not the original version.  There were lyric changes and more marketable arrangement with the energy actually toned down from the original.   NOTE:  The references indicate the song was released in 58' yet another record below has an excerpt of this in it and it was supposed to have been released in 57'.  DAH!

(GREAT JUMPER)

GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY   -   THE VALIANTS   -  KEEN 3-4004   -   1957

This version was release in the prior year to the one above.  It has even higher energy that Little Richard's.  The original author, Bumps Blackwell is solely credited for the song and his band is backing up the group.  Future versions reflect two authors and lyric changes.  All that said, its not as good as the changed versions.

(GREAT JUMPER)

GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY   -   THE CRESTS  -   COED  CO-543   -    1961

Here is a tamer early 60s version that is decent from this well established group.

(GOOD JUMPER)

HELLO   -   LITTLE JUNE & HIS JANUARYS   -  SALEM  188   -   1963

Here is a great ballad at the start of another example of different songs having the same title.

(GREAT BALLAD)

HELLO   -   THE NUTMEGS   -    RELIC 531   -   1963

REISSUED '65:    Orig:  TIMES SQ.  6

ACAPPELLA  -  It is in the same timeframe that the record above was released.  However, distribution pretty much limited it to the NY & NJ areas.  Local streetcorner groups practiced with it.

(GREAT BALLAD)

HELLO  -   SUBWAY SERENADE   -   CLIFTON  EP-504   -    1980s

ACAPPELLA  -  Here is an updated version of the Nutmeg's song.  It is great.

(GREAT BALLAD)

TOO YOUNG   -   LEWIS LYMON and THE TEENCHORDS   -   END  E-1003   -   1957

This is a great early jumper version of the standard classic song.

(GREAT JUMPER)

TOO YOUNG   -   THE EMBLEMS   -   BAYFRONT  108   -   1962

Now this is a great Doo-Wop version!

(GREAT BALLAD)

TOO YOUNG   -   TOMMY VANN and THE ECHOES   -   ACADEMY  118   -   1966

INSTRUMENTAL  -  A high energy instrumental from the early 60s.

(GREAT JUMPER)

RAUNCHY  -  ERNIE FREEMAN   -  IMPERIAL  5474   -   1957

INSTRUMENTAL  -  A great remake of Bill Justis' classic song.  BY REQUEST!

(GREAT JUMPER!)

THE FLYING SAUCER GOES WEST   -   BUCHANAN and GOODMAN   -   LUNIVERSE  L-108   -   1957

NOVELTY  -  Taking excepts of popular songs and working them into the story lines of these records proved very popular and these guys were the best at it.

(GREAT NOVELTY)

EL WATUSI   -   RAY BARRETTO   -   TICO  T-419   -   1963

INSTRUMENTAL   -  Even though the guys mumble through the whole song, I guess because most folks didn't understand Spanish, the song was considered an instrumental.

(GREAT JUMPER)

SINNER'S DREAM    -     EUGENE FOX - CHECKER 792  -  1954

(You're Worst Nightmare!  Especially, after a couple pints of Slo' Gin)
