The 85' Firebird

  1. Engine: LB8 2.8 litre V6 (173 ci)
  2. Transmission: 700R4
  3. Horsepower: 135
  4. Torque: 165 ft-lbs
  5. Compression Ratio: 8.9:1
  6. Rear Gears: 3.42
  7. As far as I can tell this is pretty much a base Firebird. The only major option that this car has is the T-tops.
  8. * The differece between the horsepower in the 85' vs. the 84' is probably due to the fact that the 85' is fuel injected and that the 85 has better flowing heads.

I came across the 85' Firebird after my 84' sprang a massive oil leak. I needed a car for college and getting a different one was about the only option that I had, at the time, because I didn't have the time or knowledge to fix the problem. At first I was looking for a 4 cylinder Pontiac Fiero partially for the fact that one would get better gas mileage, and because they are not something that you see a whole lot of. Most people that I have talked to who own or have drove Fieros claim that they are exceptionally well balanced cars, and the V6 (2.8 liter) versions are fairly peppy too. (I was looking for a Fiero because I didn't think that I'd be able to afford another Firebird for awhile.) I went to test drive a Fiero but found that the car didn't have tilt steering so my 6'3'' body wouldn't fit in the car. I then began to search for a Fiero with tilt steering. Thats when I came cross the 85' Firebird. The Firebird was only $200 more than the Fiero, and it was actually in a lot better shape. (What an upgrade!) The interior was in nearly perfect shape, there is only one tiny spot of surface rust on the quarter panel, and it only had 82,000 miles on it when I bought it.

After purchasing the car one of the first things that I did was to switch wheels with the ones on the 84'. I also took the CD player out of the 84' and put it in the 85'. I have added tint to the T-tops and added a strip of tint across the top of the windshield, because I was tired of being blinded when driving into the sun.
