**January 3: ~~Nick has a new air bed so that he can be moved around easier so he won't get bed soars and to prevent lung problems~~ he is also having a CAT scan on Tuesday~~ **January 4: ~~Gauze has been put on Nick's eyes to protect them from dirt, etc. because his medication prevents his eyelids from closing~~ **January 5: ~~Nick has been off paralyzing medicine for 24 hours and is maintaining good vitals~~he is controlling his own body temperature~~his food intake through his feeding tube is up to 75cc's an hour and he is also having water through the tube~~they are using a splint that is switched from one foot to the other every 3 hours to help with circulation~~the gauze was removed from his eyes **January 6: ~~NICK OPENED HIS EYES AND MOVED HIS MOUTH LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO TALK TO HIS MOM!! he cannot speak but does move his mouth~~waiting for doctor to analyze his status~~KEEP SAYING YOUR PRAYERS 8-) **January 7: ~~Nick is beginning to respond to neurological testing **January 8: ~~The drain was removed **January 9: ~~ Nick is completely off blood pressure medication~~started CPT (therapy to help mucus come out of his lungs)~~Nick is on different antibiotics because he is continuing to have a fever **January 10: ~~Nick was allowed to listen to his music which helped to lower his heart rate~~he did some tracking with his left eye~~Nick is making slight movements with both arms~~Nick let out a BIG yawn! **January 11: ~~Nick had an ultrasound of his liver done which showed that the medications were enlarging his liver so Nick has been taken off all medications except for Ibuprofen~~he continues to listen to his music which is bringing his heart rate down~~Nick has an infection in his right eye **January 12: ~~Nick is scheduled to have a Tracheostomy done on Friday...this will allow the respirator to be removed from his mouth and he will be able to breath through the tube in his throat...it will also allow him to be able to talk~~his fever is down~~Nick is spending most of his time in a natural sleep **January 14: ~~Trach was put in and the ventilator was taken out of his mouth and attached to the Trach~~Nick is moving his mouth like he is trying to speak but he cannot because all of the air is going directly to his lungs~~A G-Tube was inserted into his stomach for feeding~~fever is staying down~~Nick is able to move his arms a bit more **January 15: ~~NICK HAS BEEN MOVED OUT OF ICU AND PUT ON THE NOR UNIT (Neurological Observation Room) WESSON 4~~he is on a regular bed instead of the air bed ***NOTE: Visiting hours are from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. ONLY...all lights go out at 8 p.m. on the floor...please be aware that Nick needs his room to be quiet and he cannot be over stimulated*** Jon and Tammy would like to thank all of the staff in the ICU for the wonderful job caring for Nick (and us too!). We are eternally greatful and will never forget everything you have done. You are a great crew! **January 19: ~~Nick was able to squeeze his Mom's hand, open a clenched fist, and raise his left eyebrow all on verbal command~~he has been off the ventilator since 1:00 p.m. and is breathing on his own NOTE: DOCTORS WANT NICK TO BE STIMULATED AND TALKED TO NOW TO TRY AND GET HIM TO DO MORE THINGS~~NICK IS ON A LIST TO GO TO A REHABILITATION CENTER WHICH WILL BE IN OR NEAR BOSTON SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VISIT HIM PLEASE DO IT NOW **January 20: ~~Stitches were removed from Nick's head from where the ICP monitor was **January 22: ~~Nick was tracking with his left eye while his mom read brightly made cards he received from his Spanish class~~Pneumonia appears to be clearing but they are continuing antibiotics~~rotating hand splint every 3 hours to help keep his hands open **January 23: ~~Nick moved his hand up and down on verbal command **January 24: ~~Nick can point his right finger~~Sticks out his tongue~~waved good-bye~~Nick kicked a nurse because she moved him! **January 25: ~~Nick sat up in a chair today propped up with pillows~~he is scheduled to be transported by ambulance to Spaulding Rehabilitation Center tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
**January 1, 2000: ~~Nick's chest tube was removed~~
