REDPATH SUGAR REFINERY
The Redpath Sugar Refinery was founded in 1854 by John Redpath,an irish imigrant. It closed in 1981 ,so exactly after 126 years of production. This factory was the first *real* factory to be built in Canada. In 1983 ,The site was subject to a very partial destruction(They removed the smokestacks ) In 1999, A group of social workers proposed to build some low income housing in this building. It appears that the project was bullshit again.Work was suppose to start at october 2000,Yet nothing has been done. While asking the City what was going on,They said no more Redpath renovation! ADRESS OF REDPATH: corner of St-Patrick and Montmorency, near lachine canal,in downtown.
