Introduction. Religious roots of drug war forfeiture-without-trial. [TopLink]

This web page (due to copyright restrictions) has only a few of the article excerpts found in versions of this page sent out to email lists, etc.. One such email message with many more excerpts is found here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/drugwarnews/message/945

The info here consists of just a few of the religious roots of forfeiture-without-trial laws.

The U.S. Drug War is a Holy War. See also this page:
*Religion 101. Drug War = fundamentalist Holy War. Theocracy today. The Religious Right most strongly supports the U.S. Drug War. Links, polls, history, etc..
http://corporatism.tripod.com/religion.htm and
https://www.angelfire.com/rnb/y/religion.htm

The roots of one of the most unjust aspects of the drug war (forfeiture) come from religious and spiritual persecution, religious torture, religious hanging and burning, religious forfeiture, religious apartheid, etc..

Catholics against Protestants, Protestants against Catholics, Protestants against Protestants. Catholics and Protestants against heretics, atheists, Jews, women and/or "witches." Millions were killed and/or tortured on all sides over centuries. All kinds of gruesome methods of death and torture were used. As were forfeiture, exile, segregation, discrimination, banning from professions, extra taxation, forced renunciation, insulting loyalty oaths, fees, humiliation, property destruction, etc..

*In continental Europe the history of witch and heretic burning, etc. goes centuries further back than the webpage excerpts in the sections below (emphasis added) indicate. For much more info and history click the webpage links. - long link

"...an informed study concentrating on a single witch trial in Northern Moravia during the 1670s. The trial resulted in death of over 100 persons. The events leading to this trial started when an altar boy observed an old woman hiding the bread given out during communion. ... The judge observed the legal guidelines during the torture of prisoners and, after obtaining signed confessions, forwarded them to an appellate court. After receiving confirmation of the sentences, the judge arranged for public burnings. The justice system derived revenues from the trials and kept them going by gathering additional witchcraft accusations from concerned citizens."

The Catholics have been dominant in France ever since."

"Mary Stuart [Bloody Mary 2] returned [1561] to Scotland [from France], taking with her a deeply cherished hatred of the [Protestant] Reformation."

During some of that time period Nostradamus lived in Provence, France. Nostradamus lived from 1503-1566.

"Michael Nostradamus (Michel de Nostredame or Nôtredame), b. Dec. 14, 1503, d. July 2, 1566, was a French physician and astrologer whose predictions of the future have fascinated people for centuries. Baptised a Christian to conceal his Jewish heritage during a period of violent anti-Semitism, ..."

"At the age of 14, Michel was sent to study in the city of Avignon, capital of the papal enclave in Provence. There he was taught philosophy, grammar and rhetoric by Catholic priests, but in his free time, he studied the occult and astrological books in the renowned papal library. As a result, he was nicknamed 'the little astrologer', and his open defense of the astrologer Copernicus alarmed his family, who were afraid it might draw attention to them. Michel did have a traumatizing experience, witnessing his nanny being burned at the stake as an accused witch; perhaps that is one reason why he was to go to great lengths eluding the Inquisitors later in his life."

*Queen “Bloody” Mary 1. Quotes below (emphasis added) are from this link:

"She reigned as Queen of England from July 19, 1553 until her death on November 17, 1558. ..."

"In 1555, John 'Thomas Matthew' Rogers and Thomas Cranmer were both burned at the stake. Mary went on to burn reformers at the stake by the hundreds for the 'crime' of being a Protestant. ..."

"Mary first began to earn her unofficial title of “Bloody Mary” when she had her cousin, Lady Jane Grey, executed to prevent any possible power struggle. It is generally believed that Mary might have spared Jane's life if it had not been for the intervention of the Spanish diplomats who conditioned Mary's marriage to their king on her executing Jane."

"Not only was much of the potency of the witch-hysteria in Europe lost in reaching Britain, but it arrived at a later date and the type of heretic-witch who was constantly pursued by the Inquisition in Europe was virtually unknown in Scotland, until a law was passed against them by Mary Queen of Scots [Bloody Mary 2] in 1563...."

"Immediately after being accused and incarcerated for witchcraft (which was a Capital crime) the property of the individual was seized. Those who ran the trials also profited from them. They would keep the property for their own use. Food was withheld from the incarcerated until and unless their families paid. Bedding, household implements, animals and food were among the confiscated."

"She was released from Salem prison in March 1693. ... On 17 October 1711, Rebecca EAMES was among 22 of those convicted during 1692 whose attainder (forfeiture of all land and property) was reversed by act of the Massachusetts General Assembly."
http://together.net/~jdresser/witch2.html

"Within them are potent chemicals, ergot alkaloids, including lysergic acid (from which LSD is made) and ergotamine (now used to treat migraine headaches). ... At that time, rye was the staple grain of Salem. The rye crop consumed in the winter of 1691-1692 -- when the first usual symptoms began to be reported -- could easily have been contaminated by large quantities of ergot. The summer of 1692, however, was dry, which could explain the abrupt end of the 'bewitchments.' "
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/secrets/case_salem/clues.html

"Ergot poisoning can't even explain all of the events at Salem, Caporael concedes. Some of the behaviors exhibited by the witch accusers probably were the result of mass hysteria -- or outright fakery. 'At the end of June and the beginning of July, 1692, I think there was more imagination than ergot. But by that point in time three people had already been hung, and the trials had taken a path that people felt they had to stay on,' Caporael says."
