Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro is world
famous, and attracts a huge number of tourists.
The actual kick-off date varies from year to year, usually ranging from late February to early March. Officially, it starts on a Saturday and it ends at noon on the following Wednesday, the
"quarta-feira de cinzas" (Ash Wednesday). Nevertheless, several people start commemorating on Friday and only stop - " when they drop"....
After the New Year's Celebrations, many Cariocas can barely wait for the Carnaval to begin. After the Christmas expenses, money is saved to spending during Carnaval; big plans are laid aside until after it's all over.
Carnaval in Rio is so significant that important business should only be done
after Carnaval, when the commercial year really begins: there is a reduction in
expenses in several areas of commerce and workers are not always very
trustworthy because of the excessive importance given by some of them to
carnival...
Rio's Carnaval has evolved over the years. The actual street carnival has lost a lot of the importance it used to have
when the carnival party was restricted almost only to the samba-schools parade and to the carnival balls.
More recently the street carnival is slowly regaining its importance.
One of the unique services that we offer is the opportunity to
take part in
Carnaval: not as a bewildered spectator among the delirious hordes, but as an actual participant.
In affiliation with the
Império Serrano School of Samba, we invite you to dress up, wear the costume, sing the song, and become part of
the fairy-tale tradition that has become an annual event.
