New Year: Rio

The Réveillon party, celebrating the New Year, is becoming more sophisticated each year. What started as an spontaneous celebration of the people has received strong support from the government and companies related to tourism, like restaurants and hotels.

Today, the party is organized several months in advance and, year after year, has more and more new aspects: more places are added to the official celebrations, new entertainment items are added, the fireworks shows are enhanced and become more sophisticated. The natural consequence is an audience that grows every year to see the world's biggest Réveillon party.

Security is an aspect which can not be ignored and involves all city and state security organs. The Municipal Guard, civil and military police, firemen and civil defense are present with equipment and personnel in huge numbers. No one can walk more than a few meters without finding people responsible for security, in groups which sometimes comprise more than 10 people.
