Completely enslaved by the Robotech Masters, the Zentraedi were "programmed" through constant brainwashing to believe that the Masters were their gods. This belief kept the Zentraedi in line for several millenia, enforcing their will and protecting their assets throughout their empire.
That belief and will to serve would end when the Masters sent Dolza's fleet after Zor's battlefortress, later known as the SDF-1. Exposure to the ways of Earth's Micronian culture made the Zentraedi see that war was not the only way to live, and they rebelled against their masters. This rebellion would eventually lead to the end of the First Robotech War on Earth, with some skirmishes scarring the world for several years after.
Nearly all Zentraedi were micronized by the time the SDF-3 made it’s voyage to Tirol. The majority of the Zentraedi went along with the REF on their mission to the Masters’ homeworld. Most of them were returned to giant size to mine ore from Fantoma during the Sentinels’ war against the Invid, with very few exceptions. And the majority of those were killed in battle during the war with the Invid.
That having been said, there are still Zentraedi Warriors within the REF, just far fewer than left with SDF-3 for Tirol. The micronized Zentraedi that remain have shown unswerving loyalty for their human allies, and are fiercely protective of them, willing to die to preserve their freedom.
The Zentraedi have been trained to operate new, more efficient mecha that have replaced the original battle pods. Though much smaller, the REF battlepods are far superior in terms of speed, armor and sheer firepower. This has pleased the Zentraedi greatly, as they feel that they are assured of continuing their place in history as one of the greatest races of warriors in the vastness of the Megaverse.
The creation of a Zentraedi character is somewhat different than a normal character, as the race is already determined. Since the Zentraedi were genetically engineered by the Masters, they specialized which Zentraedi would serve what role.
