Practise
in front of a full length mirror
Check
your body posture and "line" for each move of the dance -
if it doesn't look right, try to work out what's wrong. Arms and
upper body posture are the most important areas to check!
Imagine
where your audience is. Practise "projecting out" to them.
Remember
to also practise away from a mirror so that you don't become reliant
on it for visual cues.
Practise
performing the dance in different directions or different
rooms to help reduce stage fright.
Imagine
what sort of facial expressions are appropriate for different spots
in the dance. Practise these as you dance. Smile with open mouth!
Practise
the dance in the costume you will be wearing at least a couple of
times before the performance. Don't leave this until the same day as
you may find you need to adjust the costume.
If
you are new to performing, practise your make up before the day.
Things
to take to a performance: all of your costume, safety pins,
bobby pins, jewellery, needle and thread, bottle of water, small
towel to mop up perspiration, extra makeup, small mirror for last
minute makeup, other clothes to change into if you are staying on,
some sort of "cover up" if you are arriving in
costume.
Remember
to enjoy yourself and keep it all in perspective!
