What Can I do to Fight Sweatshops?
There is only one way to make sure that you are not supporting a sweatshop. Even if something is made in the USA, that does not mean that it isn't made in a sweatshop. The U.S. Dept. of Labour estimated in 1996 that 50% of all U.S. apparel factories are sweartshops.

So how can I make sure I'm not supporting a sweatshop?
Easy. A goodwill store would be an excellent place to start. Oftentimes the clothes there are next to brand new and you can sometimes find vintage or expensive clothing there for like $2. And the money you spend there goes to the poor so no matter what, you're good!

News: Doc Martens
Sadly, Dr. Martens are, after many years of fine craftsmanship, are moving from England to China for cheaper labour. This will cut down on the quality of their goods and also put many English people out of jobs.
What You Can Do:
Give them feedback! Tell them what you think about them moving and maybe create some change.

For USA Click here and go to (contact us) at the top of the page and select "feedback".
For UK

Make some change everybody ;-)

What is a sweatshop?
by definition:
sweatᄋshop n. A shop or factory in which employees work long hours at low wages under poor conditions.

[put very simply]

oftentimes the sweatshop workers are uneducated and do not make enough money for common amnesties such as running water or electricity.

Some companies that are known to use sweatshops:
1. Nike (claims to have stopped, but their shoes are still made in 3rd world countries... I wonder why?)(China)
2. Union Bay(China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka)
3. Adidas(China)
4. The Gap(Mexico, Guatemala, India)
5. Columbia Sportswear Company(China)
6.Sonoma Genuine Jeans Company(Sri Lanka, Vietnam)
7. Disney(Mexico, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, China...)
