Playing By Myself

Alone in the sandbox
Having so much fun
Along came a stranger
who wanted to play with me
Solo on the swings
Feeling like I'm flying
A stranger walked toward me
and asked if they could fly too
Building sand castles, I'm desolate
Dreaming of living inside it
In waltzed a stranger
who wanted to dream with me
But I was having fun
Playing by myself
Even though that stranger is kind
He cannot play with me
I want to play by myself in the sandbox
Getting sand under my fingernails
and in my shoes
I want to fly alone on the swings
Feel the wind stroke my cheeks
And whisk through my hair
I want to build my sand castles unaided
Dream of living inside
And spending hours digging a moat around it
I was having fun
Playing by myself
Even though that stranger is kind
He cannot play with me
back to the highway that never ends
