Kindred Souls - Part 31 -

Part Thirty

Part Thirty-One

“Lindsey, this is ridiculous.  The prices…”

“Shhh, just enjoy yourself.  We don’t have to worry about how much things cost tonight.”

“Sirs, a bottle of champagne, on the house.”  A waiter poured a glass for each of them.  “And, your father wishes you a very happy birthday,” he said to Jesse before leaving.

Lindsey looked over at Jesse.  “It’s your birthday?  You didn’t tell me…”

“You were so worried about your case.  I didn’t want to distract you any more than I already was,” Jesse said, folding and unfolding a cloth napkin in his lap.

“Oh, baby, you’re more important than any stupid case.”  Lindsey picked up his glass of champagne.  Jesse imitated him.  “To you.  Happy sweet sixteen.”  Then they both took a sip.

Jesse’s almost ended up on the table.  “Uhg, that tastes terrible.”  Lindsey was chuckling behind one hand.  “Are you laughing at me?”

“No…”

“You are!”  Jesse pouted.

Lindsey immediately sobered.  “Jesse, baby, come on…  Baby, please don’t.  You just looked so cute…”

This made Jesse pout even harder.

“Aww, baby…  c’mon, I love you,” Lindsey pouted at Jesse.

“Oh, fine…  I love you, too.”

“More champagne?”

Jesse glared at Lindsey.  “Does it get better?”

“I guess you’ll just have to try it and find out.”

When Dru awoke, she found herself in a small room.  She shook her head to clear the grogginess as she surveyed her surroundings.  The room was very nondescript; the walls a barren, unbroken white, including a white-painted door.  The only furniture in the room was the bed she was currently on.  It too was completely white.  As were the clothes she was now wearing.

Dru got off the bed, trying to figure out where she was, and how she got there.  As she inspected the door, she could see no handle or any way to open the door.  However, there appeared to be a movable flap at the bottom of the door, large enough to push a cup through.

Trailing her hands over the walls, she began to remember.

*** Flashback ***

"Welcome the O'Malley Clinic.  I'm Dru, can I help you?"

"Is your father here?" asked the stranger roughly.

"No, I'm sorry.  He's out at the moment.  Would you like to make an appointment?"

"No, I think I'll just leave a message."

*** End flashback ***

It was then that he had attacked her, grabbing her arm and injecting her with something that made the world go dark.

"Hello?" she yelled, pounding on the door.  "Is anyone there?  My father is going to find me!  And you're going to be in big trouble!!"

Standing outside the door, Rever snickered quietly.  Once he had kidnapped the girl, he had originally planned to rape and kill her, then leave her in the clinic's lobby.  Then he had thought of an even better way to use the girl to hurt her father.

After all, what's better than driving a psychiatrist’s only child mad?
