Once again the pair passes by familiar landmarks. Like many times before, Varisha is glad that few people know what their princess looks like without her gowns. Cragmith slows down as they enter the town. The village people mind their own business. People are bartering for better prices on goods of all sorts. Varisha passes several small booths set up along the road. The smell of fresh bread mixes with the smell of the blacksmith's fire.
Varisha spots the Golden Dragon nestled next to a boarding stable. Handing over a couple gold pieces to the stable owner, Varisha gives instructions to the groom. "Do not try to groom this one," indicating the stallion, "he would prefer to be left alone. Now, can you point me to an empty stall?"
After seeing to her horse's water, Varisha heads over to the tavern. The smell of stale beer wafts in the still air. The sounds of the other people fill the room. Walking over to the bar, Varisha scans the room with her pale eyes. "Give me some mead, bartender," Varisha calmly states. She hands the man her money when the mead is placed before her. Varisha gently rolls the drink in her mouth, savoring the taste.
A movement catches her eye. Without moving, Varisha pretends not to notice. Moments later, a young man with shining black hair and dark brown eyes sits calmly down beside her. For a moment he regards her. Then he also orders a drink. For several minutes neither says a word.
