Since I want this topic to still have stories, I have one, gotten from beyond belief.

There was a man named Jack who worked as a type writer and sold short stories of the news on paper. Lately, Jack hasn't been getting any stories and just sat near his type writer bored. He looked around, and saw other people typing like there's no tomorrow. Soon, everybody started to leave. Jack's friend came over, "C'mon Jack, let's go home, aren't you tired?" Jack shook his head. "Nah, I'll just wait 'til I get a short story in, then I'll go home." "Suit yourself." Jack's friend left, leaving Jack in the building all alone.

He was getting tired, he saw a couch and decided to lay down and rest his eyes for a little bit. As he was sleeping, he had a dream, a volcano was exploding, tidal waves fifty feet in the air crashing into a small island, storms were raging across on this beautiful island...Palmboa...Jack woke up from his dream as he thought to himself. "What if...what if I sold that dream of mine as a short story..." Jack got up and in front of his type writer as he was typing out his entire dream while it was still fresh. He finally finished, as he packed up and left for home, but the mistake he made, was leaving the paper in the typewriter.

The next day, Joey was collecting all the stories, and finally came across Jack's. Jack wasn't here today, so Joey took it and brought it to the owner of the place who read them and published them. As he was reading through the stories, the owner came across Jack's, he read it, amazed, as he shouted out, "Put this on the front cover now!" Jack finally came into work, late as he saw his co-workers smiling and greeting him. He then saw his friend, "Jack my boy, where did you get such a story? Your brilliant!" The owner came holding Jack's story. "Jack, you are amazing, how did you make such a story?" "What? Wait wait wait, is that the story of the volcano erupting?" The owner nodded. "Oh...that wasn't real, it never happened, I just typed it up yesterday from a dream memory, that was my dream, it wasn't real." The owner looked surprised. "What?! I just published it?! I can't stop it now! I can't reject it!" Jack's friend came over. "Sorry boss, but you're gonna have to..." The owner looked at Jack, "When I say you have a promotion...I'm lying." The owner then went back to his office angrily as the others saddened went back to work.

The owner was sitting in his office reading more news stories, until one story came in. A little island was having volcanic activity. Soon, more updated stories came in, this island was near the India and was also having massive tidal waves. Finally, the last story came in, confirming the errupted volcano, storms overhead, and the island called Crakotoa...The owner called Jack to his office while he was still looking at the news. Jack came in worried what happened. The owner got up and looked Jack in the eye. "Well Jack...it look's like your dream came true. A small island near India had a volcano erupt, tidal storms cross over, and storms everywhere, exactly like you typed out your dream...this island's name was Crakotoa, but nicknamed by the natives there...Palmboa..."

Which means Jack was physic, and predicted the eruption of the island.

Alright, I don't know if people are still ready these, cause the posts are getting to be few and far between, but here's a local ghost story. Beware though, it's a bit long.

Thurston Lava Tubes on the Big Island of Hawaii is a bit of a tourist attraction. It's located in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The attraction consists of informative boards scattered among a trail that tourist (and locals) follow, leading them into a lava tube and then back out. A lava tube is basically an underground cave of a sort, where lava once traversed on it's way from the volcano to the ocean. There are railings along the trail to keep tourists from wandering off into the bush.

James was excited to be in Hawaii. It was his first big trip with his family, and he was hoping to meet some beautiful local girls. In fact, at 17, he was always on the look out for girls. Today was no different. His family had driven up to the Volcanoes National Park to see the sights. They stopped at the Thurston Lava Tubes and were looking at some informative boards before going on the trail.

James was looking around for any local girls. He wasn't very lucky here, most of the people around were tourists, and most of them were middle aged couples. Before heading off on the trail, his parents decided to go used the bathroom. James just leaned against a railing a waited. That's when he spotted her. A bit of a ways down the trail was a beautiful brown skinned girl, with long black hair. She was in a vivid red dress. And she was looking at him. She stepped off the trail and headed into the bushes, giving him one last glance before she disappeared from sight.

James followed, mesmerized by her beauty. He forgot all about his parents and walked off into the bush. He kept catching glances of that red dress, and followed as best as he could. Soon, he stepped into a clearing, the girl in red standing in the center. She was looking straight at him with large, almond shaped eyes. She beckoned for him to come closer.

He took a step, and stumbled a bit on a loose rock. He caught himself before falling, and stood up straight, looking at the girl. She was still staring at him. Something in the back of his mind started ringing. Something's not right here it said. The girl motioned for him to come closer. "Come here, James," she said in a sultry voice.

The alarm in the back of his mind got stronger. How does she know my name? he wondered. James started to get a little spooked.

"Come here, James," the girl said again, this time more forcefully.

"I think I better get back to my parents," James replied. He started to back up, keeping his eye on the pretty girl.

"Come here, James," the girl said once again, her voice getting deeper.

"No, I'd better get going," James said, as he started backing up faster.

"Come here, James!" shouted the girl, her voice getting deeper.

With that, James turned around and ran, following the path that he had left behind him when he first followed the girl. He could still hear her, "James! Come here James!" He ran with all his might, loosing his footing a few times, but never looking back.

When he got back to where he was waiting for his parents, he saw them looking around, panicked. He ran to them, short of breath. His dad asked him where he had gone and what he had been doing. James told his dad about the girl and how he followed her. His dad wanted to see for himself, so he had James lead him back to the clearing.

It wasn't very difficult to follow the trail back to the clearing. When they got there, no one was there. The girl was gone. James pointed to the spot that she was standing, in the middle of the clearing. His dad picked up a stick and poked around a bit. Less than a foot from where the girl stood was a large hole, covered over by the brush. If James had gone to the girl, he would have fallen to his death.

The girl in this story is what locals call a calling ghost. They also call you from dark spaces, often taking on the form of a loved one. These ghosts have only one goal, killing their victims.

"Angel or god, anyone who opposes me will suffer a terrifying death." - Laharl
From: Geoform 187 | Posted: 2/20/2004 9:23:45 PM | Message Detail
Here's one I got from an old lateral-thinking puzzle. I adapted it to story form. It's not a ghost story, but it really creeped me out when I first read it. Here goes...

An inmate in a high-security prison was desperate to get out. Finally, after many failed escape attempts, he made a deal with the facility's undertaker. The next time someone in the prison died, he was to get into the coffin with the corpse and be buried outside prison grounds. Then, the undertaker was to dig him up a day or two later.
The prisoner carried out his end of the agreement. In the dead of night, after hearing that a prisoner had died, he stealthily made his way to the room where the bodies were prepared for burial. He found a single coffin and climbed in. The next morning, he was buried.
Two days later, the prisoner had not been dug up. He was beginning to worry. He found the box of matches he had kept in his pocket, and lit one. The sight he saw caused him to collapse in shock.

The face he saw was that of the undertaker.
