"OK, can you follow me please."-The Dr. said as he led the way.-"We were able to make her wakeup, but we ran all the other tests that we could to see why she passed out. She is very weak and will probably have to have the baby by cesarean. We won't be able to determine what exactly is wrong until the birth b/c we don't wanna harm the child in any way. If it's alright, we'd like to keep her here til after the baby is born just to run the tests."-Dr.
"Sure."-Justin.
They walked into her room and by her side.-"Hey Hailey."-JC.
"Hey. My head hurts and the room is spinning."-Hailey.
"Did you tell the Dr. that?"-Justin.
"Yeah. He's been taking information since I woke up. I just want the baby to be OK."-Hailey.
~Justin stayed by Hailey's side the entire time during the next week. She would fade in and out of conciousness. She got more pale and he was really worried. The doctors did all they could to help her at this time. Then she went into labor.~
Justin didn't take the time to call anyone. He stayed with her all the way into the O.R. where the cesarean was to be done. The anesthesiologist gave her the epideral and she had some drugs coming through the IV making sure she couldn't feel anything while they got the baby. She looked up into his eyes and smiled after she had laid down on the table and they put the shield up. Justin held her hand in his.-"We're gonna have a baby."-he said with a smile as his eyes teared up and they made the incision.-
"I love you."-Hailey.-"I love you too."-Justin.
The doctors were just about to get ahold of the baby, when her hand went limp.
"Oh God, something's wrong. she's lost conciousness again!"-Justin said to the doctor.
"Dr.! Her blood pressure is dropping!"-Nurse.
"Let's get the baby out first."-Dr.
Meanwhile, one of the other nurses in the room was trying to get Justin to leave the room.
"Sir, it would be best if you would wait in the waiting area across the hall."-Nurse.
But Justin wasn't concentrating on anything but her as tears fell from his face. Everything was going in slow motion for him. Then, with the sound of his baby's cry, he was zapped back into reality.
"Sir, please step outside."-Nurse.
He reluctantly did as she told him. While he was waiting, he called JC and his mom. They were there 15 minutes later and Justin explained the entire situation to them. Lynn hugged her son and JC blinked away some tears and held his face in his hands and sat down.
The doctor that had been with her came in the waiting room an hour later.
"Can I speak to the relatives of Hailey Reid?"-Dr.
Justin and JC walked over to him with Lynn close behind.
"Are either of you her boyfriend?"-Dr.
"I am."-Justin.
"Well, as complicated as the birth was, you have a healthy baby boy."-Dr.
Justin smiled and hugged JC and his mom.
"He's with the nurses getting cleaned up and weighed and measured..."-Dr.
"What about her?"-Justin asked with a renewed look of worry on his face.
"We almost lost her, but were able to get her back. She's stable now, but she's still unconcious and may remain in a coma for a while."-Dr.
"When can we find out what's wrong?"-Justin.
"We're in the process of doing that right now. Sorry I can't tell you more."-The Dr. said as he left.
"It's pretty late. I saw some cots in the other room."-Lynn.
"I'm used to these chairs by now, but you two can go get some sleep. I'll wake ya when the doctor comes back."-Justin.
"You sure?"-JC.
"Yeah."-Justin. JC went to go to sleep as Lynn hugged her son once more.-"Everything will be OK Justin. I still can't believe my boy's a daddy."-Lynn.
Justin smiled.
"That's the first smile I've seen from you in weeks. I feel privileged to have seen it."-Lynn.
"Go to sleep mom."-Justin.
"Ok, don't worry about it too much. She'll be Ok."-Lynn said as they walked away.
"I can't help it."-Justin said to himself.
He just sat there and remembered all the times he had with her. From the time he went to the club and had met her, the times he spent with her at the beach (her fave place to be), the times he made her smile and cry, and the night he got back with her. 'I hope everything is OK.'
A nurse came in about 10 minutes later. "Mr. Timberlake, you can see your son now."-Nurse.
Justin got up, wiped his eyes, and followed the nurse into the nursery. There was about 5 other babys there. She stopped in front of on as she picked him up. "Here's your son, Brendan Michael Timberlake, 7 lbs. 9 oz., 19" long, born December 5, 2001 at 12:35 AM."-The nurse said as she handed the baby to him.
As she left, Justin looked down at the tiny, gentle baby asleep in his arms. Justin looked at Brendan's hands and feet and did the routine finger/toe count. A tear fell from his face as he looked down at the baby who had since opened his eyes. Justin smiled.
