Father's Day

Father's Day or Dia del Padre in Spanish was originally celebrated in the U.S.A. in 1910.
Now it is celebrated in many countries of the world. Like Mother's Day, it may be a holiday that spread because of the greeting card companies!

Sonora Smart Dodd of Washington may have been inspired by the success of an official Mother's Day. In 1909, she began to promote Father's Day in memory of her own father.
William Jackson Smart had raised six children on his own, after his wife died. To Sonora Dodd, he was the epitome of selflessness and courage, and she raised support of local community and church leaders to have his birthday declared as Father's Day. Ultimately, for practical purposes, it was settled as the third Sunday in June.
