The subject we chose to do our National History Day project on Joan of Arc. We did our project on her because she inspiried us. She shows that not only men can change the world, but women can do it, too. Although many people consider Joan of Arc a witch, we chose to focus on her being a great military leader. She relates to this year's National History Day theme because she is a revolutionary. She had the bravery, courage, and strength to come forth as a woman and lead her country to victory in a revolution against England. This was during the Hundred Year's War.
We started our research at the Rancho San Joaquin Middle School library searching for books that had to do with women changing the world. We found a book called Women Who Changed the World . It was about many women, but it had several pages on Joan of Arc. Next, we looked in the The World Book Encyclopedia and found resources there, too. The internet was a big help too. We went to several sites to find pictures, quotes, and other useful information to help us. While browsing the internet we found a whole website based on Joan of Arc and her life. We scanned over the whole site and found a lot of useful information to help us make and compelte our own website. It also had many pictures we copied and pasted to our website to make it more of a pictorial website so that you could understand it better. We weren't sure we had enough resources so we decided to check on our older brothers' and sisters' projects to see how many they had. It was clear that we definitely did not have enough. So we decided to keep browsing the internet and go to the Irvine Library and research books there. We found many intersting books and encyclopedia's there, but the one that stuck out was Webster's World Book , 1996, vol. 11/J, Page 234. We also happened to find another very useful website, www.stjoan-center.com The title of the website was "The Museum of Joan of Arc in Albuquerque, New Mexico. That website helped us out a lot.
Joan of Arc was a very famous French Military Leader because she was one of the only women military leaders and she saved millions by leading her armies. She was victorious in many battles until she was wounded and captured in a battle when she tring to free Paris from the English rule. This is how she is a revolutionary, she revolted against being overthrown by England, and she fought back, and brought back France as well as it's morale. Her victories made the country light up from Dark times to reliefs that a savior had finally come. The Burgundians (French for the English) had her burned at the stake because she was accused of being an agent of the devil and was accused of witchcraft (her name was later cleared after her death).
Without Joan of Arc many women in the worl wouldn;t have the courage to do any of the courageous things they do today. She was not only an imspiration for women, but also a big inspiration for men for the same reason. When she was doubted and made fun of, she stuck through it, and persevered, and she was proud and fought for her religous rights. In conclusion, Joan of Arc was a very victorious military leader. She is a good role model to all people around the globe today becayse she was willing to fight for what she believed in. Joan of Arc is admired by partiots, supporters of women's rights, and even people who study the supernatural. We all wish we could have known her.
