Short Stories

The Sea Hag, by Melissa Lee Shaw (in the anthology Silver Birch, Blood Moon): wow! I read it and loved it at once. It's told from the witch's point of view and, honestly, it's worth the read! I won't say more, it would be spoiling the story.

Comic Books

Reflets d'écume by Varanda and Ange (two books: Naďade and Noyade): sorry for the French titles, but they are French comic books. Quite dark, the first book is similar to the Hans Christian Andersen's tale, except that the prince has nothing charming. In the second one, it shows how the memory of the mermaid drives slowly the prince to madness and make his son hers...

Movies

The Little Mermaid: another Disney classic. Though I like the story, it is far from Hans Christian Andersen's, but well, the original has nothing too happy at the end. But, honestly, Prince Eric is the best Disney prince ;)
The Little Mermaid II, Return to the Sea: argh. Another Disney sequel. The original characters lost their charm and the new ones bring nothing. I bought it and I regret it.

Music

Rusalka (Anton Dvorak): Czech opera. In this story, Rusalka is abandoned by the prince and returns to the sea, but the prince returns to her, only to find death in her arms. Very sad story, but quite differently from Andersen's.
