The Frog Prince

Novels

The Prince of the Pond, by Donna Jo Napoli: haven't read, didn't buy the book yet. Sorry.
Never After, by Rebecca Lickiss: don't believe the subtitle saying 'Not just another frog-meets-girl story'. The thing is, the frog-meets-girl story is quite thin, but it is in the book, I agree. But it's just not the leading story, though I'm not really sure I'd able to say which story is the leading one :)

Short Stories

The Princess and the Frog, by Robin McKinley (in The Door in the Hedge): a very nice retelling, which explains somehow how the ex-frog may be willing to marry the princess after having been thrown against a wall :)
Frog, by Vivian Vande Velde (in Tales from the Brothers Grimm and the Sisters Weird): at least, the ex-frog does what I wanted him to do!! He refused the princess! Funny story.
The Frog Prince, by Gahan Wilson (in the anthology Snow White, Blood Red): hum, well, that is... frankly, didn't really pass with me. Psychoanalyst story, sorry, don't like that.
The Frog King or Iron Henry, by Daniel Quinn (in the anthology Black Thorn, White Rose): well, sorry again, but I don't like it either. I don't know if I have a problem with too weird stories or if I don't understand them, but well, I can't.
Near-Beauty, by M. E. Beckett (in the anthology Black Thorn, White Rose): it is said to be also a Sleeping Beauty, but I don't agree that much. It is a science fiction story; there are some nice aspects - the frog despising his human 'owner' - but there are some weird ones too...
Kiss kiss, by Tanith Lee (in the anthology Silver Birch, Blood Moon): in this one, the curse is not the wall, but the kiss - as the title might suggest :). Actually, I liked the story. The twist in the end is rather interesting in my opinion.
Toad, by Patricia McKillip (in the anthology Silver Birch, Blood Moon): I'm afraid I didn't understand everything in the story (as usually in a Patricia McKillip's book ;)) But it asks a rather intriguing question: why would the ex-frog marry the princess who's a spoiled brat and threw him against the wall?
