MUCH to report and link to today as haven't had a lot of internet access recently. Firstly, before I forget, I have found a wealth of amusing tube maps recently, including the Have I Got News for You Alternative Tube Map and the Gallifrey Dr. Who Underground Railway (hello?) - all quite entertaining.

So yes, talking of amusement, much to report of late. On Saturday morning, I was sitting in Starbucks with Ed and a mate of his, and my phone frantically rang with an even more frantic Mike on the other end. Bearing in mind this was before I'd had any coffee, I was a little taken aback to hear Mike rush 'MarkyougottatellmeeverythingyouknowaboutAMidsummerNight'sDreamQUICK' down my earpiece. It turned out he was on his way to an audition for which he'd chosen one of Puck's speeches, but had neglected to read the rest of the play. I don't know a lot about A Midsummer Night's Dream but I know it well enough to give a plot summary and so forth. So I sat there and rattled it out, with Ed and his mate's occasional glances getting more and more concerned, and eventually hung up. Mike phoned me about an hour later in the realisation that he didn't know anything about his other piece either, had forgotten his sheet music for his singing audition and didn't want to go to that particular drama-school anyway, so he had decided not to go after all.

Next thing is a job interview I have on Monday. Now, it's a really nice, close-knit team, apparently, and they pay well, and I'd be using my languages, so it sounds great, right? OK, well apart from the fact that the commute would kill me, it's also a comedy Afro wig importer and exporter. Mmmm. Keeping a straight face at the interview is going to be an interesting challenge. I'm thinking this isn't the job for me.

Also, the wonderfully named Austrian town of Fucking has been holding discussions as to whether to change its name, and, thank God, they have decided to keep it as is is. The problem is not that people are offended, but that English tourists keep nicking off with signs from the town as souvenirs. Metro reported today, either in error or in an attempt at a joke, that the neighbouring towns are called Vomitville and Windpassing, but somehow it seems unlikely...

Moved my desk out of my room on Monday with Si, so my room is now in complete chaos. I can't believe that I'll be living in Harrow this time next week. I can't believe my degree is all over. I can't believe I get the results tomorrow.

SO it's really all over now. I've finished my degree, and got it. It was nice that the results were so uniform - we all got 2.1s, with the exception of Becca, who is brilliant anyway and got a 1st. It's funny - I thought I'd been in the mood to get really trollied last night but I ended up melancholically mooching down Tottenham Court Road, looking back over the last 3.5 years and considering how much has happened since September 2000. The people I have met. The places I've been. The fact that I never gave any consideration to the fact that it would all end somewhere. All that kind of shit. It's sad in a way but I know that it's just the beginning of something else too. What exactly remains to be seen. Will keep you posted when I know myself.

Sunday 13.6.03

HMM. Went to see 'The Day after Tomorrow' yesterday evening - wasn't really expecting much, and, correspondingly, I didn't get it either. The film is visually spectacular, and, broadly, the story-line isn't bad (although including a stupid, pass-the-bucket semi-love story in it was a stupid mistake; I'm all for having a focus on individual characters in major disaster films but not soppy romances which start in the middle of the worst storm earth has ever experienced.) Anyway, so that was reasonable. Moving out later today, so the flat is looking rather bare and sad. And I must, must get a job soon.

Tuesday 15.6.04

...AND it seems that I have just got one. I don't know whether I'm going to take it yet, but I've been offered a position as a 'recruitment administrator' (glorified secretary for a bilingual temp agency, essentially) today after having been interviewed and probed in various ways (nothing dodgy, promise - this isn't going to be a repeat of the nicois clothes shop that was clearly just a front for something else much nastier), but I'm not sure I can take it. I mean, on the one hand, I think I'll be able to do the job with my fingers up my nose - is just typing up memos and filing and replying to emails and meeting and greeting, that sort of thing. Some French and German work too. Whether they're going to pay me enough is a different question. We'll see.

Also moved to Harrow for the Summer, which I'm getting used to. It's a reasonable connection to London (very near tube) but I'd like to be in zone 2-3 ideally when I move back out in September, money permitting. More soon.
