Book I: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone focuses around Harry's 1st year at Hogwarts. This book introduces Harry and all of the major characters he will encounter (namely his best friends: Hermione & Ron). In this book, Harry finds out that Voldemort was responsible for his parents' death...not a car accident. He even faces the evil lord at the end of the story.

Book II: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets focuses around Harry's 2nd year at Hogwarts. Hogwarts finds trouble in the second year...the Chamber of Secrets, which can only be opened by the heir of Slytherin is opened, and Harry is determined to find out who did it. Ginny finds a diary written by a boy named Tom M. Riddle who turns out to be not only the person who opened the Chamber, but Voldemort as well. Harry defeats Voldemort and saves Ginny from the basilisk...a dangerous snake who kills you if you look straight into its eyes.

Book III: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban focuses around Harry's 3rd year at Hogwarts. Sirius Black, the man suspected of killing Harry's parents, is on the run and heavy security is enforced on the Hogwarts grounds. Harry later learns that Sirius Black is his godfather and he is not guilty at all for his parents' death. Ron's rat, Peter Pettigrew (a.k.a. Scabbers), who is an animagus was responsible for killing Harry's Parents. Peter is caught and spared by Harry who let him run away.

Book IV: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire focuses around Harry's 4th year at Hogwarts. In this book, Hogwarts is having a special competition called the Tri-Wizard Tournament where three schools compete against each other for a trophy. The Durmstrang and Beauxbaton schools come to compete against Hogwarts and not three but four Tri-Wizard champions are picked to compete against each other. The four champions were: Viktor Krum, Fleur Delacour, Cedric Diggory, and Harry Potter. The four champions battle it out in the competitions by participating in different events. In the final task, Harry meets up with Voldemort when the Tri-Wizard Cup was fixed to be a portkey. Someone dies in this book (I'm not going to say...I've had the ending ruined on me and I don't want this to happen to the people who didn't read this book yet)
