My New Job

Last year, I had 5 different jobs. The worst one is a tie between Rain Air and Labor Ready. When I was planning on doing this web page I was working at Rain Air. When I finally got around to it, I was working at Purity Products. Lots of names? I know, I'll explain them all....now I guess. I started out last year working for Gorman Enterprises, which I started around Nov. 2000. It was pretty much my first job, except for my temp. job I had when I was high school. Anyway, Gorman Enterprises is just a independent Contractor for Airborne Express (if you don't know what that is, its a courier service, like Fed Ex).

Then I moved to Texas, and looked for a new job. The only place that would hire me was Wal-Mart. So I worked for them for about 3 months. It wasn't a store it was a distribution center. I quit for a lot of reasons, but the major reason I guess, was that we had only one car and so Christina and I looked for a job that both of us could work at.

We found Vacation Tour and Travel. I thought it was like a travel agency, but it turned out to be telemarketing...that sucked, so I quit. Mostly because I sucked. Christina stayed though, because she was doing good and making alot of money.

So I stayed unemployed for a while and then I found my 4th job. The company called Rain Air...what is that? I think I still don't know. Have you ever heard of a Rainbow? Well, I sold those, yep, I did. And I did OK, but they didn't pay me. Sort of, they paid me commission, but I thought they were going to pay me for every demo I did, or so they said. So I quit.

I needed a job, and no one was hiring. So I found out about Labor Ready. Labor Ready is this temp. service, it works like this: If you work that day you get paid that day, after that day, you are assumed to have quit. The jobs that you did were mostly construction work. That sucked, because you have to deal with the weather and only get around 6/hr. Labor Ready takes advantage of people, because The person or company who the services are rendered to usually pays about 12/hr, Labor Ready takes half of that and gives you the leftovers. I stopped going there, because I found another job.

I started working at Purity Products. I just put water filters together and ship them. I worked with 4 other workers, all Hispanic. Only one of them speaks English. The work wasn't hard, it was just mindless work, you just have to be safe. For example the first day I was there I did a pallet of shower filters. I had to glue them together with this hot glue gun thing that is about as big as a small microwave. You have to push this pedal that shoots the glue out and spins the bottom of the filter, or whatever you are glueing. Anyway, I accidentally hit the pedal and hot glue shoot out on to my hand, needless to say, it hurt! And I do have a scar. So the next time you go to a store and you see Culligan Water filters, or GE water filters, I probably made them or one of my co-workers.

Then, I moved to Florida and started working with my father-in-law sanding floors. It's hard work, but at least I'm learning a trade. So that's my new job.
