The character Trinity is one of only two female roles in the
first Matrix movie and continues to be the dominant feminine character
throughout the Trilogy. Many people have
linked her to be a portrayal of Eve, The Holy Spirit and Mary Magdalen. While her parallel role in the movie is the
least prominent of all the biblical characters, the representation of Magdalen
holds the most weight.
“Trinity mirrors the elusive role in so far as she is with Neo as he is killed and because she is holding him, she is the first to see him when he is resurrected. Further, her embracing of Neo as he comes out of the Matrix echoes the Gospel of John wherein Mary Magdalene runs to embrace the risen Jesus. Also, after the battle that Neo has with Agent Smith, Trinity tears her clothes to wipe Neo’s head. The use of her clothes is similar to the personal giving of Mary Magdalene who uses her hair.”11 Albright (Reference 10) adds to this concept: "There is a theory, backed by solid scholarship, that posits that Mary Magdalene was a leader of the early church and one of his early disciples. We find out in the first movie that Trinity was the first member of the crew that Morpheus 'freed' from the control of the machines. In this context, she would be a leader of the early 'church' and lead a new generation of people who wish to learn the truth and believe in something more then their reality.
As
shown by the picture below, Trinity is very loving and nuturing and
this is also how I imagine Mary Magdalene would have looked
if she had a leather outfit and two automatic handguns.
