Not Much Time Left

Paine wondered around Besaid her head in the clouds thinking about what she and Wakka had talked about. Should I really tell her how I feel? What if she starts to hate me?

She frowned when she saw Rikku helping an old woman walk into Yuna’s hut. The lady looked so frail. And there was such sadness in her eyes. But she also saw something else. It took Paine a minute to figure out what it was. It was fulfillment. Like she finally did something, she had set out to do.

“Yo,” a man’s voice yelled, breaking into her thoughts. Paine looked up to see Wakka jogging up to her. “What’s up, ya?”

Paine shrugged, walking toward Yuna’s hut. Wakka frowned and followed the silent warrior.

Paine didn’t bother knocking before she walked into the hut. Rikku and Yuna looked up as she took a seat on the couch.

Paine looked troubled, both girls could see. “Hiya, Paine,” Rikku exclaimed.

Yuna smiled, brushing her brown hair out of her eyes, “hi Paine.”

Paine nodded, “hey.” She looked up when Baralai and Gippal walked into the room, being all lovey dovey.

Wakka, who had followed Paine into Yuna’s hut, raised his eyebrow in surprise. “Seems I’ve missed a few things,” he joked, making both Baralai and Gippal blush.

Rikku smiled, “Yup, sure have. They’re in luuuuuuuv,” she teased in a sing-song voice.

Gippal swatted at the Al Behd’s backside, making the girl jump and yelp. Yuna giggled into her hands, making Rikku mock glare at her, “thought that was funny, did ya.”

“Yes, I have to say that I did,” Yuna’s eyes went wide, and she was sure that she blushed, when Rikku stormed over to her and swatted her on the backside. “Still think it’s funny,” Rikku asked, covering her own blushing?

“Ha ha, very funny.”

Rikku grinned, “I thought so,” Rikku said, striking a pose, her hands on her hips.

“Hey,” a clear female voice called. It was coming from outside. Paine felt her heart start to beat ferociously.

Wakka walked to the door opening it, revealing the pretty black mage. Lulu smiled, holding a bundle in her arms. Lulu walked into the hut, smiling when she saw everyone, “what, having a party without me,” she teased, pouting.

“Of course not, we all just happened to be here,” Yuna said, eyeing Lulu’s bundle full of curiosity.

“Whatcha got there, Lulu,” Rikku asked?

Lulu smiled, moving the bundle around, so everyone could see what was inside of it.

“Awww,” Rikku cooed, “it’s a baby.” She looked down at the small infant. “Where’d it come from?”

Lulu smirked, “well first you need a man and women, then-----“

“Hey, hey, I already know that part,” Rikku said, covering her ears, blushing.

Lulu laughed softly, “Hehe, this is Luna. I’m watching her, while her parents are out.”

Yuna walked up to Lulu, “she’s so small,” she said, quietly.

Rikku smirked, “well they usually are.”

“Shush, you,” Yuna said, sticking her tongue at the girl. The two girls were almost back to the way they were before the little incident, but they still harbored incestuous feelings for each other.

Paine blushed, standing up, “can I hold her,” she asked?

Lulu smiled at the younger girl, “sure,” she gently placed the baby in Paine’s arms, raising her eyebrow when she saw the warrior’s blush.

(“Gippal,”) a weak voice called out from Yuna’s bedroom.

Gippal jumped, “excuse me,” he said, running into Yuna’s bedroom.

“Who was that,” Lulu asked?

“Oh, you’ll never believe what happened,” Rikku breathed, telling Lulu, Paine and Wakka all about the old al behd.

“Wow,” Wakka said, scratching his head. “Poor women, ya.”

Everyone nodded. Rikku sighed, looking down, “she doesn’t have a lot of time left.”

Yuna sniffed, “it’s sad, she’s finally found her grandson, but she won’t get to spend a lot of time with him.”

“Is it really that bad,” Baralai asked, feeling terrible.

Yuna nodded, “she’s sick and really old. No amount of curing magic could fully heal her.”

Gippal walked out of Yuna’s bedroom, his eyes full of sadness, “Gippal, is everything okay,” Baralai asked, pulling the man into a hug?

Gippal looked up at Baralai, “yeah, she wanted some water,” he looked down biting his lip, “she won’t be here much longer.”

Everyone went very quiet, watching the two boys. “A. . .at least when she goes, she’ll no longer be in pain,” Baralai whispered, his eyes misting.

Gippal looked at everyone, smiling sadly, “I know you’re right. It still hurts.”

Wakka frowned, “it’ll always hurt when you lose someone you love.” Everyone looked at the man, thinking he was talking about his brother or parents. Not a certain blond boy. “But in time it starts to feel better.”

Gippal nodded, “thanks. I hope you’re right.”

Yuna smiled, “come on, I made us some lunch.” She took a large pot off her stove and placed it on the table. “I’m not the worlds greatest cook, but I’m sure it’s edible.”

She spooned a small amount into a bowl, and handed it to Gippal, “see if Malika’s hungry.”

Nodding, Gippal took the bowl to his grandmother.

Everyone fixed their selves a plate and set down and started to eat.

Paine practically jumped when Lulu put her hand on her shoulder, “I’ll take Luna so you can eat.”

Paine blushed and handed the infant to Lulu, and started to eat her food.

Lulu set down, cooing at the baby, curiously eyeing Paine as she ate.

Gippal walked out of Yuna’s room, “she ate most of it. She’s sleeping now,” he told everyone.

Baralai smiled handing Gippal a plate, “I fixed your plate.” He blushed when Gippal kissed him on the cheek.

“Thanks, Baralai,” Gippal set down next to Baralai and dug into his food.
