The Truth About Lulu

Days passed and Chappu and Luzzu’s relationship grew. The brother’s friendship with Lulu grew as well. It was like the Thomas brothers had known her all of their lives.

School would be starting soon and Wakka was sick with worry. What if people find out about Chappu and me. Will they treat us the same way people in our old hometown treated us? Will they try and pick fights with us? Or will they accept us?

“Yo, Wakka,” Wakka jumped, coming out of his thoughts. He looked toward the voice and smiled, seeing his brother approaching him. Wakka’s smiled widened when he saw the look on Chappu’s face. He seemed so happy. And for that, Wakka was grateful.

“What’s that grin for, bro,” Wakka eyed the older redhead?

Chappu blushed, “I think Luzzu and I are ready for the next step,” he said with a dreamy look on his face.

Wakka went blood red, “ahh, I don’t want to hear about it,” he yelled covering his ears.

Chappu looked at his brother startled, “ack, not that step,” Chappu blushed, “you know kissing”

Wakka looked at his brother his face turning back to its normal color. “Wha . . . you haven’t kissed yet?” Wakka was amazed, the two seemed very close. He just always thought they were private about kissing.

“No,” Chappu admitted. He shrugged his shoulders, “we’ve both known we were into guys for a very long time, but this is the first time for both of us to be in a relationship. I guess we’re a little slow.”

Wakka chuckled, “yeah, a little slow. But it’s okay. Don’t rush things. But if you’re ready, by all means, go for it.” Wakka smiled, wishing he had someone, the way Chappu had someone.

Chappu took a deep breath, “I am. I hope I don’t freak Luzzu out.”

Wakka smirked, “don’t you worry. I’m sure he’ll enjoy it. He’s under your spell.”

“I hope so,” Chappu laughed, “under my spell. I like the sound of that”

Lulu looked at her father the same fear coming to her eyes. “Dad, wait stop,” Lulu begged.

“Luna, don’t talk back to me,” he growled, shoving the thin girl hard on her back, sending her across the room.

Lulu hit the wall hard, “my name’s Lulu,” she whispered, tears starting to fall down her cheeks.

It seemed Mr. Frost was once again drunk, taking his anger out on his only daughter. “Dad please why are you so mad?” Lulu struggled to stand up, only to be back handed, making her slump to the floor.

Lulu was very scared, “where’s mom,” she asked her voice laced with fear? Lulu looked around the small apartment, but couldn’t find any trace of Kylie Frost.

Jarred grabbed his daughter and drunkenly tossed her on her bed, “Luna you’re a filthy little girl.” He turned her over, pinning her down, pulling her shirt up. “You’ll be punished.”

Lulu started to sob, then yelled when she felt the first wack, as her father beat her with his belt.

“Daddy, please just stop it,” she wailed. “What did I do?”

Why did I ask that? He always does this when he’s drunk. It has nothing to do with what I’ve done.

Lulu’s sobs turned into gasping yelps. She yelped each time the belt fell on her back, cutting into her skin. When he was done, he just turned around and left without a word, quietly closing her door behind him.

“Where’s mom,” Lulu asked the empty room? Oh, yeah She remembered now, her mother was away on some sort of business trip. In a way she was happy her mom was gone, because it meant her dad couldn’t hurt her too. It always hurt Lulu so much to see her mothers ruby eyes go wide in fear when he approached her in a drunken rage.

Lulu shakily got up from her bed, and went to her window, opening it enough so she could slip out. I’ve got to get away, before he does something worse to me.

Lulu dropped the few feet to the grass and gasped in pain. “Ow,” she cried.

Where should I go? Lulu couldn’t go to her girlfriends house because the girl was on vacation till school started. So where can I go?

“Wakka,” she faintly smiled. Wakka and Chappu have become good friends, they’ll let me stay with them.

It was dark outside, and Lulu was a little apprehensive about being out alone, but she walked the few blocks till she was standing outside Wakka and Chappu’s house.

She was feeling very lightheaded, probably from hitting her head on the wall, as she walked up the driveway.

don’t want to freak out their parents, so I better sneak in. Lulu painfully chuckled. Look at me planing on breaking and entering.

She walked to the window that she knew was Wakka and Chappu’s. She peered in a held back a peal of laughter. For one thing it would really hurt to laugh and another she’d wake the whole neighborhood. But it was very cute. Both boys were sound asleep. They looked so cute and innocent.

Please be unlocked, please be unlocked! Lulu bit her tongue hoping the window didn’t squeak when she opened it, scaring Wakka and Chappu.

Lulu sighed in relief when the window opened, quietly. Thank you Wakka and your forgetfulness.

Lulu choked back the loud yell that wanted to escape her lips, when she crawled into the redhead’s room.

Okay, now what? Lulu bit her lip, quietly going to Wakka’s bed, and sitting on the edge. Her tears started to flow again, remembering the coldness in her father. She was in unbearable pain. Mental pain as well as physical pain.

“Wakka,” she whispered, gently shaking his shoulder.

“Mm, go away Chappu, sleeping,” Wakka muttered.

Lulu faintly smiled, “Wakka,” she whispered a little louder.

Wakka was startled awake when he registered that the voice being spoke was female, “huh, what,” he muttered, sitting up fast, bumping into Lulu, making her cry out.

“Wha . . . Lulu,” Wakka rubbed his eyes. Am I dreaming? No she’s really there . . . crying.

“Lulu,” Wakka wiped her tears away, his eyes going wide when he noticed the bruises and cuts that covered her body. “What happened to you,” he whispered?

Lulu frowned, her body starting to shake, “m. . . . my,” she sniffled, throwing herself at Wakka. Needing someone, anyone to hold her.

Wakka frowned, gently rubbing the girls back, in soothing circles, “shh,” he whispered.

Lulu gulped, “look at me blubbering. This is so unlike me . . . but,” she trailed off.

“It’s okay. Cry all you want.” He pulled back from her. “I’m here to listen when you want to tell me what happened.”

Lulu smiled, “thanks . . . um can you just hold me for a bit.” She looked down, “you know as friends.”

Wakka smiled, “of course,” he laid back, holding Lulu close to him. It wasn’t long before both fell asleep.

Chappu was the first to wake the next morning. He yawned and stood up, not noticing his brother at first. When he did, he dropped, the glass of water he had picked up off his night stand.

“Whaa,” he stared confused. All he could see was Wakka and the back of some dark haired GIRL. Wakka had his arms around her protectively.

Chappu stared at the two his mouth open in an ‘o’ of surprise and shock.

“Oy,” he breath grinning wickedly, So Wakka’s been holding out on me. He’s really bi.

He looked closer at the two, his eyes going wide. He had just noticed the strange colorings on the girls neck.

Bruising. What happened to her?

Chappu went to his brother shaking him awake, “Wakka how come you never told me you were bi? And you guys had better get up, for pity’s sake you’re only fifteen. Mom will have a fit if she catches you two.”

Wakka looked up at Chappu, giving him a ‘huh’ look, “wha,” he started to say. Then he remembered last night. Waking up to find a tearful Lulu sitting on the edge of his bed. He remembered how hurt and scared she looked. He remembered the bruising and the cuts on her body. Then he remembered her asking if he’d hold her.

Wakka blushed knowing what he and Lulu must look like. He gently pulled away from her, tucking his blanket around her.

He looked at Chappu who was still giving a ‘you go dog’ look and sighed, shaking his head. “Chappu,” he whispered, “I’m not bi. I’m 110 percentgay.” He slowly climbed out of his bed, carful not to wake Lulu.

Chappu looked at Wakka then to the sleeping girl in his bed, “but you and her looked pretty intimate.”

Wakka frowned, he may not be attracted to the girl, but he did love her. She was almost like a sister to him now. “No not intimate, just really worried.”

“Huh, I don’t get it.”

Wakka sighed and quietly pulled the blanket off Lulu. Chappu’s eyes went wide when he saw that Wakka was lifting her shirt.

“Wakka what are you doing,” Chappu quietly hissed?

“Look,” he pointed to the hand-shaped bruise on her back, “they’re all over her. You should see her face.” Wakka lowered her shirt and covered her back up.

Chappu set on his bed his head in his hands, “d..do you know who did this to her?” He looked up a Wakka, “that is Lulu, isn’t it?”

Wakka nodded, “yeah it’s Lu. She didn’t tell me. She was so upset last night, and asked me to just hold her. She snuck in our window.”

Chappu stood up and started to pace back and forth, “we’ve got to tell mom and dad. T...that wasn’t some kids’ hand print, it was a grown man’s hand.”

Wakka nodded, “I know, but lets wait till she wakes up. So she can tell us what happened to her. She’s safe here. Nobody here would ever hurt her.”

Lulu had woken sometime after Wakka had shown Chappu her bruises and smiled, hearing the two brothers talk. They really seem to care about me. She turned her head and peered at the two redheads.

“Wakka,” she whispered, causing the two boy to jump and turn to her. Both boys winced when they saw her face. She had a big black eye, and her chin was badly bruised.

“Lulu, you’re awake,” Wakka smiled.

“Hey, Lu.” Chappu said.

Lulu smiled, “hey.” She looked down biting her lip, “um thanks for letting me stay last night,” she looked up at Wakka.

“Lulu, you’re welcome to stay with us whenever you want.”

Lulu looked at Wakka surprised registered on her face, “really?”

“Of course. I know we’ve only know each other for about a week or so, but I feel like you’re my sister.”

Chappu nodded grinning, “same here.”

Lulu eyes started to mist, “thank you.”

Wakka grinned, “you’re welcome, big sister.” He looked away, knowing what he had to ask next might be hard for her. “What happened? You can tell us.”

Lulu eyes clouded over, “I’ll tell you,” She stood up and walked across Wakka’s room pausing by his window. “I was just a little girl, when my father started to drink.” Wakka and Chappu gasped, guessing where her story was leading.

“At first it was okay. But when I was about four he started to become a really cruel drunk. Hitting me and mama. This time he was in a powerful rage, and he beat me like he’s never done before,” she took a shuddered breath, “I’m just thankful my mom wasn’t home.”

Wakka and Chappu looked at Lulu a look of horror on their faces. Her father did this to her. How can someone hurt their child? Wakka stood up and went to Lulu, pulling her into a very gentle embrace.

Chappu swallowed the awful feeling he had, and went and embraced Wakka and Lulu.

Lulu sighed, leaning her head on Wakka’s shoulder. “Thanks guys,” she whispered, hugging both boy as tight as she could stand.

“You know,” Lulu giggled, “if Luzzu finds out you hugged me, he’ll get very jealous.” She was joking of course. Luzzu wouldn’t care, he knew that Chappu thought of Lulu as just a friend.

Chappu backed away from Lulu, blushing brightly, “oh hush.”

Lulu and Wakka started to laugh, Chappu soon joined in.

“Hey what’s all the laughing about,” Mai asked, peaking in her boys room, her eyes going wide when she laid eyes on Lulu, “why is there a girl in your room,” she gasped seeing the girl’s bruises, “what in the world happened to you?”
