Bandits snatch $6M from Zeelugt couple Tuesday, October 19th 2004 |

Three masked bandits robbed a Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo family of over $6M, inflicting knife wounds to one of their victims.

A press release from the Police Public Relations Office said during the robbery one bandit's identity was revealed and he has since been arrested. Bisram's wife was the first to be awakened by the noise and upon investigating she was accosted by one of the robbers who held a gun to her head. The two other bandits proceeded to Bisram, beating him and also demanding cash and jewellery.
Bisram refused to hand over any money and put up a fight, but was chopped on his head and stabbed in the thigh. Realising that the men were serious, Bisram led the bandits into his bedroom where he opened two wardrobes and handed over $2M in Guyana currency, US$4,000 and jewellery to the value of $4M. The bandits then left.
The couple was treated at the West Demerara Regional Hospital and sent away. Stabroek News was told that it was the first time the family was robbed. Bisram is a clothes vendor.

to a police press release, the man's 54 year-old wife was aroused by
a noise and upon investigating was confronted by the men, one of
whom held her at gun point, while the others struck up her husband
and began to beat them, demanding cash and jewelery. The
victims then directed the men to two wardrobes where they removed
$2M cash (Guyana currency), US$4,000 and jewelery to the value of
$2M and escaped. During
the robbery, one of the men's identity was revealed and he has since
been arrested. The
victims were treated for their injuries at West Demerara Regional
