Quantum physics has been around for a while, but never has it been put to practical use like it was in the summer of 1982. Scientists said it couldn’t be done, but they were wrong. Dead wrong. When I think back to it, I can’t believe it myself. So much happened in such a short amount of time… Or perhaps an immensely long amount of time, depending on your perspective of time. I can barely remember anything before they did it to me, my life before the experiment is a hazy fog of uncertainty and fealty. I write now so that others may learn from the mistakes of that time, if they can ever read it, that is.

“Don’t you worry, Mr. Wakeford, we’ve tested this extensively, absolutely nothing can go wrong.” It was easy for him to say, situated behind three feet of bullet-proof glass, while I was sitting in what looked like an interrogation room you see on all those cop shows, except in this one all the walls looked like they were air filled plastic cells, perfectly white. They looked like they’d be fun to bounce on, but unfortunately I was strapped to a fold-out office chair, my hands resting on a metal four legged table in front of me. There was no visible exit from the blindingly white room, and the only window was the one with the man in white looking back at me, writing things on a clip board and pushing various buttons.
The table and the chair were almost creepily ordinary; they didn’t fit at all in the surroundings. The straps were tight to my legs and back, holding me to the chair. Actually, now that I think about it, I don’t think there were any straps. Why didn’t I get up? Some force in my subconscious was holding me down, preventing me from moving. The only thing I could see in the white room aside from myself, and the furniture was some kind of form-or contract, on the table. I read it slowly; I couldn’t focus right.

This is a certified form issued by the American Experimental Technologies Association.
Any discrepancies should hereby be resolved by a registered COD of AETA.
Printed by AETA for the Nevada Science Foundation, printed August 15th, 1982.

THIS FORM CERTIFIES THAT RECIPIANT AGREES TO ALL POLICIES AND DOCTRINES OF THE NEVADA SCIENCE FOUNDATION AND AETA. UPON SIGNATURE, RECIPIANT IS ENTITLED TO CONTACT A SINGLE LOVED-ONE (MONITORED). IF SIGNED, THIS RECIPIANT AGREES THAT NEITHER THE NEVADA SCIENCE FOUNDATION, NOR AETA ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES DONE TO RECIPIANT OR ANY OF RECIPIANT’S BELONGINGS DURING THE COURSE OF THE EXPERIMENTAL STAGES SANCTIONED BY AETA. RECIPIANT IS REQUIRED TO NOT RELEASE ANY INFORMATION CONCERNING ACTIONS PERFORMED BY THE NEVADA SCIENCE FOUNDATION OR AETA. RECIPIANT MUST AGREE TO BE MONITORED AT ALL TIMES, PRIOR TO, DURING, AND PRECEDING HENSE EXPERIMENT.

I, hereby agree to all above conditions, and consent the Nevada Science Foundation the use of my body in all experimental stages.

It was the strangest form I’ve ever seen.
