Observation Post 4
LV-1201
Detail: Outer-Veil Advance Expeditionary Unit
Objective: Locate Xenomorph Hive
Status: Contact lost. Rescue team en route.
-----------------------
Woman: Cargo vessel Aurora, you are cleared for approach. Log on to channel zero one niner for landing beacon and weather data.
The ship Aurora flies towards the desolate planet of LV-1201. In the colony, building, machines sit abandoned and there is blood everywhere. Dr. Eisenberg is on the ground, shaking and also covered in blood. Flashback to before all this occurred.
Man 1: I instructed you to have this shipment stowed by 09:30.
Man 2: You also told us to expect 9 containers. We received 17.
Man 1: I don't want to hear excuses. Get it done!
-----------------------
Date: November 23, 2230.
Time: 10:13 p.m.
Incident: -1 day, 7 hours.
Location: Cargo ship. Western landing. Primary Operations Complex (POC).
LV-1201.
-----------------------
Woman: The Committee is concerned, Doctor. The loss of Pod 5 is a major blow.
Eisenberg: Setbacks are to be expected.
Woman: Yes, Doctor Eisenberg, but the Committee is still waiting to see progress.
Eisenberg: We've made considerable strides in deciphering the Alien chemistry.
Woman: The Committee wants commercial applications. You promised cures; instead they hear stories of unauthorized research. There's even a rumor you want to try to harness and control the Hive.
Eisenberg: I'm not responsible for what politicians choose to believe.
Woman: I would hate to see your attitude jeopardize your future here.
Eisenberg: I'm not about to let this project get away from me. File that in your report.
A woman, Dunya, approaches with a container.
Richter: You're late. What's that?
Dunya: The package is larger than normal. So is your payment. As always, do not open it.
The container is moved by Richter into the ship. He sets it down, unaware of what he is shipping.
Robot: Scan completed. Report inconclusive. Target is shielded.
Richter: I don't like this.
Intercom: Captain required on deck.
Richter: I'll be right out.
Richter: What's the problem?
Lloyd: Richter, General Rykov wants to see you. Now.
Richter: You've got to be kidding. I'm scheduled for departure in 15.
Lloyd: Schedule's changed. Get moving.
Richter: Ah, come on, Lloyd. Give me a break.
Lloyd: Let's go, hotshot.
The ship takes off after Richter and Lloyd leave. As the ship shakes during launch, the container rocks back and forth, then falls over. There is an Alien Egg inside. It slowly opens, revealing the Facehugger inside.

In laboratory conditions, containment fails less than one percent of the time. Most failures, when they occur, result in the escape of the first life-stage of the Xenomorph - the Facehugger.
Facehuggers are remarkably quick and cunning, possessing an innate drive to avoid detection and to find an appropriate, isolated host.
* Escape from this vessel.
Intercom: Warning. Contamination detected in cargo hold.
You begin this level, of course, as a Facehugger. That means you have no real attacks, and you can only jump and crawl. Still, that's all you really need to do since this is a mission about stealth.
Completely turn around and you'll see a shaft going up. Go to it and crawl up it. When you reach the top, enter the room on the right and continue down the tunnel. Be careful walking past the steam, as it can hurt you. You will hear human voices here, and even seem them if you peek out the grates to your right, but don't worry, you're safe.
Man 1: Get the hell out of my way!
Man 2: Sorry, sir.
Man 1: Don't sass me, soldier.
Man 2: Sorry, sir!
When you drop out of this tunnel, you will have completed one objective, but a new one comes up.
* Find an isolated host for implantation.
Continue through the new passageway you just dropped down into. Following the pipe, crawl up into the small niche and drop down at the end. Move through this corridor until you reach the end. Look up and you'll see a spinning fan. Climb up and enter the vent, being careful not to touch the fan blades, as it kills you. Exit the vent out the only open grate. You can see and hear humans below you, but don't worry about them.
Man 1: You're not getting paid to daydream. Can't you find something useful to do?
Man 2: Yes, sir.
Man 3: That guy has issues.
Man 2: No wonder he doesn't have any friends.
Continue along to enter a new vent, and move through it.
Man 1: Is it necessary to stand right in the middle of the corridor?
Man 2: No, sir.
Man 1: Idiot.
Climb straight up at the vent's end and into a new vent. At the end, drop down onto a grated crawl space in the ceiling, where you can see and hear more humans below you.
Man 1: Why aren't you men at your usual posts?
Man 2: Sir, Sergeant Cole said...
Man 1: I don't care what Sergeant Cole said. This isn't your post.
Man 2: Yes, sir.
Man 1: That's what I thought you said. Now get out of my sight.
Man 3: Somebody get maintenance down here to fix this frickin' door.
Turn left and drop down through the broken grate. Head out into the next room, which is filled with boxes. On the other side of the mesh there is a technician and a soldier.
Technician: Somebody hacked the system. I'm serious.
Soldier: Just drop it already.
Technician: I'm talking about permanent changes to the database: duty rosters, inventory, specimen samples, all kinds of stuff.
Soldier: Did you check the log?
Technician: No record. Whoever did this was a pro. I'm betting it was one of Rykov's cronies.
Soldier: What do you have against that guy, anyway?
Technician: Do you trust him? You know he got kicked out of the military.
Soldier: He didn't get kicked out. He was honorably discharged. For medical reasons. One of the Bears told me.
Technician: You believe a mercenary? Look, the point is that someone's been messing with the system.
Soldier: Yeah, and my point is it's better if someone else makes the report. Why get involved? Did it happen on your shift?
Technician: Now that you mention it...
Soldier: Besides, you bring the heat down your own dumb ass, I'm gonna get burned too.
You don't have to listen to them talk, but it is a good bit of plot development. Anyways, walk around the boxes and into the open vent on the other side of the room. Drop down and continue through. In the next room go left and crawl on the ceiling to avoid the steam. Continue along and crawl up past the bars, then along the top of the tube-shaped tank. As you continue through the corridor, a cigarette drops down on you and you can hear human voices from above.
Woman: You going off duty?
Man: Yeah.
Woman: Hold up a sec. Let me grab my coat.
Ignore the voices and continue through this corridor and through the open grate at the end. Electricity blocks your path to the left, so go around it by taking the path to the right and enter the vent. This leads to a large space above a room with two technicians.
Technician 1: When's your tour up?
Technician 2: Five months.
Technician 1: That's not too bad.
Technician 2: I'm thinking about doing another one.
Technician 1: Yeah, right.
Technician 2: It's hard to beat the money.
Technician 1: Just don't forget it's hazard pay.
Drop down through the hole here. Don't worry about the two humans; their backs are turned to you. Ignore them and exit this room and into a hallway. Go down the hallway until you reach a point where it turns right. Look up at the ceiling and youll find a vent up there, so crawl up into it. Move through the vent, dropping down and continuing down the next hallway. At the end, there is a small crawl space to your left which leads to yet another vent. Go through it and drop down. Head towards the end of the vent but DON'T LEAVE IT! Outside there are Marines that would see you. Listen to them talk and when they are done it's safe for you to exit the vent.
Man 1: This thing's fried.
Man 2: Yup.
Man 1: So what's next?
Man 2: We should probably check up on the motion tracker out by vehicle maintenance.
Man 1: Stark fixed that this morning.
Man 2: All right, then I guess we can start inspecting the lifts down on sublevel 2.
Man 1: Ah, man.
Man 2: Beats unclogging chem toilets.
Man 1: How's it going, Toby?
Toby: Either of you remember the name of that auditor that was in here last week?
Man 1: The one with the nice ass?
Man 2: Why, you in love or something?
Toby: I'm supposed to review her report, but she hasn't sent it over yet.
Man 1: Wasn't it Sanchez?
Man 2: I think it was Sandoval.
Toby: Sanchez sounds right.
Man 2: I'm pretty sure it was Sandoval.
Toby: I'll try both.
Man 1: Ask her if she's dating anybody.
Head out of the vent and go right. You will see a partially opened door ahead of you and a corridor leading to the left. To the left is where the humans are, so run across quickly and enter through the half-opened door. At this hallway's end go right. In a room at the end there is a sleeping Marine. Pounce on his face to facehug him.
You begin the second part of this level surrounded by flesh. Use your teeth to bite your way through flesh and bone. Watch the cut scene of the chestburster's birth. You'll have new objectives.
Weyland-Yutani Debriefing, The Incident. Appendix C - WY Training Manuals.
---
During the second stage of life, the Xenomorph is at its most vulnerable. Even inexperienced teams can contain and eliminate the Chestburster with minimal loss of life. Unfortunately, during this phase, the Xenomorph displays an instinctive caution, avoiding all contact. Worse, if given time, the Chestburster will eat, molt, and grow into a full-sized drone.
* Feed to grow.
* Find a small mammal.
As a Chestburster, you cannot crawl anymore, and your only attack is a weak bite attack. You can jump, and also have a crouch jump that lets you jump higher. Like the Facehugger, it's better if you avoid human contact as a Chestburster.
Start by jumping out the window to your left and drop to the ground. don't worry, you won't get hurt. Remember to stay in the shadows as much as possible. If a human does see you, it's probably better to restart the level, so save as much as you can. Sometimes you can escape if the humans see you, however, so it's up to you. Enter the shadows on the left and approach the human. As you come near he'll stand up and walk off. Go forward to the corner and wait until the Marines stop talking.
Man 1: Where the hell is Cisco?
Man 2: No idea.
Man 1: He's fifteen minutes late.
Man 2: I'm sure he'll show up soon.
Man 1: He better.
Those two Marines will walk off through a door, leaving only one to your right. That Marine has a shoulder lamp, so wait until he turns his back to you before you run to the left. Move quickly into the shadows on the right, and keep running, going to the right before a second Marine with a light can spot you. If he's in your way, wait until he walks to the left to continue. Further down this hall, you will hear a cat meow. The nearby Marine panics and goes to check it out, heading to the left. Wait until he's out of sight then head to the right. There are no humans down this next hallway, so continue along until you turn left.
The Marine down the next path doesn't have a shoulder lamp, so stay in the shadows to the left and he should not see you. At the junction you will see a truck pull up, then drive off to the left. Follow the truck. This part is difficult, and the Marine will most likely see you, but it's okay as he doesn't follow you beyond the truck. Go beneath the truck when it parks and go as fast as you can towards the shadows and go left. The Marine may shoot at you but he'll forget about you.
Man 1: That's the last one.
Man 2: We got shorted on supplies again.
Man 1: Yeah?
Man 2: Fifteen containers.
Man 1: The whole time I've been at this dump we've been rationing.
Stay along the left walls to avoid being seen. It's a longer route, but much safer. Head towards the area lit by a red light. You'll hear a cat meowing. Move towards the grated area and look for a small hole in the grate. When you find it, jump up into it. You'll see a short cut scene in which you hear the sounds of the cat wailing and the chestburster feeding, then the level is complete.
