I Really Hate Tholomyes
IC Date: about 1817
[Felix (Tholomyes, Cosette's daddy), Javert: Dessa]
[Fantine: Yours Truly]
[The * comments I had to leave in, you'll see why. The >><< are thoughts.]

Fantine looks up with a rustle of skirts as her Felix comes in. "Oh, you've come at last."
Felix smiles broadly at Fantine, and rushes to her, to catch her under the arms, lift her into the air, twirl her around twice, set her down, and kiss her in his usual passionate manner. "Yes, I'm here. All my apologies, my dear, for my tardiness."
Fantine says, "Where have you been?"
Felix smiles. >>> F*cking one of those lushious friends of yours, my dear... oh, which was it, again? <<< "There was an accident in the street, and the /idiot/ of a fiacre driver didn't have the wit to back up and find a detour. Gyped me almost an hour of fare while it was taken care of." He smiles sweetly to her. "How have you been, my darling?"
Fantine looks at the floor. "Not well."
Felix steps around Fantine in a smooth gliding motion, sitting down on a chair and reaching out a hand to her waist to pull her onto his lap. "Not well? Are you ill, my little Fantine?"

Fantine * may I kill him, please?
Javert * Of course you may! but then you'll have to do this love scene with the Inspector, instead. ;)

Fantine takes a knife surreptitiously from her bodice. "Dahlia told me the truth about you."
Felix blinks innocently. "The truth? About me?"
Fantine says, "Yes."
Felix laughs nervously. "And... what did she tell you, my love?"
Fantine says, "You deserve this."
Fantine stabs Felix in the breast.
Felix screams! And looks at Fantine, with a look as betrayed as the one she would have carried, had he remained with her. He pushes Fantine off of him with his last bit of strength, and falls writhing on the floor. "Oh... god..." he whispers.
Fantine bursts into tears.
There's a knock at the door. However, Javert doesn't wait for Fantine to say, "Come in" or "Stay out", he just comes in. "What..." He looks at the writhing body and Fantine crying. "... happened?"
Fantine says, "Nothing."
Javert steps over to Fantine as the body /finally/ stops moving. Placing a hand gentle-like on her shoulder, "Are you all right?"
Fantine says, "No."
Javert almost whispers, not wanting to upset the poor girl further, "Will you be all right, Fantine?"
Fantine says, "No."
Fantine thinks of her poor dear child.
Fantine says, "There is a child, you see."
Javert frowns. "A child..." he looks down at the body, "His?" he asks, still quietly.
Fantine says, "Yes."
Fantine says, "But more mine than his."
Javert says, "I understand." He scowls intensely at Felix for a moment.
Javert says, "The bastard... How he must have hurt you."
Fantine says, "Yes."
Javert sighs sadly. This has happened several times before, of course with others of Felix's 'victims'. "Where is the child... we will see that you and he, or she, is cared for."
Fantine says, "She's under the bed."
Fantine pulls out the cradle.
Javert looks toward the bed, and calls, "You can come out now..." He looks to Fantine for a name.
Fantine says, "She's here."
Cosette, aged 1 and a half, bursts into tears at the sight of Javert.
Javert strides over to the cradle, and smiles down at the child. Which probably doesn't help /at all/. "She's... cute."
Fantine picks up Cosette and tries to hide her from Javert. "Yes, Monsieur."
Javert backs away, having a vague idea that the child doesn't like him. "Have you any idea what you'll do next?" he asks gently.
Fantine says, "No. Go away, probably."
Javert says, "Where to?"
Fantine says, "anywhere."
Javert says, "You wouldn't want to stay here, I suppose... I could put in a good word for you, help you get work. People wouldn't understand... about her."
Fantine says, "Would you? Oh, you are kind, Monsieur. I must leave, though. If the police find me here..."
Javert bows to Fantine. "I am at your service." and he nods. "Go to the inn, down the street." He hands her a bit of money to get some lunch there. "I'll take care of things, here, and I'll go fetch you when you can come back."
Fantine's eyes light up. "Thank you, Monsieur."
Javert just bows again, and leaves to fetch the appropriate officials to get this mess cleaned up.
Fantine sits on the bed and tries to think. She stands up, after a while, and leaves. She walks to the inn, Cosette in the cradle in her arms along with a few belongings, and gets lunch at the inn with some of Javert's money.
Javert approaches the front of the inn, and spot Fantine inside through the window. Smiling softly, he walks through the door, and waits to catch her attention.
Fantine looks up at Cosette and sees Javert over the baby's shoulder. "Monsieur."
Javert nods to Fantine, and steps over to her. For some reason, people seemed to find it disconcerting when he'd just appear, without seeming to approach first. "Well, the apartment is clear, everything is settled. You may return at your leisure."
Fantine says, "I don't think I can go back there."
Javert sits down near Fantine. "I understand... You would like to find a new apartment, then." It's a question, only half-disguised as a statement.
Fantine says, "Somewhere else."
Fantine says, "I need to get away from the memories here. They are everywhere."
Javert was about to recoomend some nice new buildings over on the Rue Saint-Jacques... he looks a little startled, but gets over it. "Leave Paris, then?"
Fantine says, "I don't know. I don't care."
Javert ponders, "You could go down, where I come from, Toulon. Nice little city, right on the sea. You'd like it there, perhaps?"
Fantine says, "I don't know." She begins sobbing again.
Javert puts a hand on Fantine's shoulder lightly, to try and comfort. "Hush now... it'll be all right... I know, he hurt you badly... we'll think of something... you'll be all right... you and her..."
Fantine says, "We'd be better off dead like he is."
Javert frowns, "Why do you say that?"
Fantine says, "There's nowhere we can be happy. I know nothing, and she is...is cursed."
Javert says, "You know more than you give yourself credit for... you knew that he had no right to use you like that... many people would consider him perfectly in the right for that. And, why is she cursed?"
Fantine says, "She was born to me."
Javert says, "And what is wrong with you?"
Fantine says, "God hates me."
Javert says, "I doubt that, very much... or he wouldn't have given you strength to do what you've done... you would have been just another victim."
Fantine says, "No...you don't understand."
Javert looks to Fantine, with a gentle, "tell me?" look.
Fantine says, "He would not let me be so stupid if he wanted me to be anything but what I am: an outcast and a murderer."
Javert says, "Look, now. He was the one to be stupid... unfortunately he was devilishly GOOD at being stupid. You did wrong, I'll not deny you that... but it was hardly your fault, or you being stupid."
Fantine says, "No, no. I let him...take advantage of me."

[Um, so we never finished it. Oops. Sorry. Maybe another time...]
